Eleni Stroulia

Eleni Stroulia is a Greek and Canadian computer scientist whose research concerns artificial intelligence, social computing, smart buildings, the internet of things, and software engineering for real-world applications. She is a professor of computing science at the University of Alberta, where she has been a McCalla Professor and the holder of the NSERC/AITF Industrial Research Chair in Service Systems Management.

Education and career

Stroulia was born in Larissa, [1] and graduated from the University of Patras in 1989. She completed her Ph.D. at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1994. [2] At the University of Alberta, she helped found Ada's Team, a support group for women and people from other disadvantaged groups among computing students. [3] She held the NSERC/AITF Industrial Research Chair in Service Systems Management from 2010 to 2016. [1] She was named one of nine McCalla Professors for 2018–2019. [4]

Research

Her research has included work on algorithms recognizing depression from recordings of people's voices, [5] and the use of virtual reality to assist older people with in-home exercise. [6] She is also associated with the Far-Play project for augmented reality research at the University of Alberta.

Before joining University of Calgary in 2007, she was a Professor of Computer Science, Faculty of Informatics and the Director of Telecommunication and Information Technology Research Institute (TITR) and Centre for Information Security at the University of Wollongong, Australia. She has served as the program co-chair of CRYPTO, ASIACRYPT, ASIACCS and Financial Cryptography and a program committee member of major conferences in cryptology and information security.

Ayanna Howard American roboticist

Ayanna MacCalla Howard is an American roboticist and the School Chair for Interactive Computing, Georgia Institute of Technology. She is also the Linda J. and Mark C. Smith Endowed Chair in Bioengineering in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the director of the Human-Automation Systems (HumAnS) Lab. Currently, she is the Chair of the School of Interactive Computing in the Georgia Tech College of Computing.

Anastasia Ailamaki Greek/Swiss computer scientist

Anastasia Ailamaki is a Professor of Computer Sciences at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland and the Director of the Data-Intensive Applications and Systems (DIAS) lab. She is also the co-founder of RAW Labs SA, a swiss company developing real-time analytics infrastructures for heterogeneous big data. Formerly, she was an associate professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science.

Carolina Cruz-Neira is a Spanish-Venezuelan-American computer engineer, researcher, designer, educator, and a pioneer of virtual reality (VR). She is known for inventing the CAVE automatic virtual environment. She previously worked at Iowa State University (ISU), University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and she is currently an Agere Chair Professor at University of Central Florida (UCF).

William R. Pulleyblank is a Canadian and American operations researcher. He is a professor of operations research at the United States Military Academy, where he also holds the Class of 1950 Chair of Advanced Technology.

She was inducted to the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists in 2017.
