Elia Petridis (born in Paris, France) [1] is a Lebanese-Greek film director and screenwriter, known for The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez , [2] and for his work in transmedia and virtual reality production. [3] He is the founder and creative director of film production company Filmatics [4] and the transmedia production company Fever Content. [5]

Early life and education

Petridis was born in Paris, France, and raised in Dubai. He attended Dubai English Speaking School, Dubai College, English College, and the American School of Dubai. [6]

He relocated to the US to study film at the University of Southern California, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Critical Studies and a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production. [7] [8]

Career

Petridis made his professional screenwriting and directorial debut with the award-winning 2006 film How Henri Came To Stay. The film aired on KCET/PBS in California's 2006 Fine Cut Film Festival, [9] screened at multiple film festivals, including the Cannes Short Film Corner in 2007, and won the Audience Award at the Beijing International Film Festival in 2007. [10]

In 2012, he wrote and directed the film The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez , which starred Ernest Borgnine in his final on-screen performance before his death and June Squibb. [11] The film was awarded a production grant from Panavision, enabling Petridis to shoot on 35mm film, and was financed by multiple investors. The crew on the film included score writer Ruy Folguera, production designer Curt Beech, editor Terel Gibson, and cinematographer Eric Beech. [12] The film premiered at the Newport Beach International Film Festival in 2012 and went on to receive positive critical acclaim. [13] [14] [15] It was acquired by Indican Pictures in North America. In 2016, Petridis directed the music video The Lost Sky for American singer-songwriter Jesca Hoop which received over 125,000 views on YouTube. [17] [18] [19] He has directed music videos for Sub Pop, Def Jam, and Sony Music.

Later that year, he began writing, producing, directing, and creating the virtual reality horror transmedia world of Eye for an Eye [20] in collaboration with Gnomes and Goblins virtual reality studio Wevr, [21] [22] including Eye for an Eye: A Séance in VR [23] and Eye for an Eye: Henrietta. [24] Petridis was a co-presenter and panelist on the Di-VR-sity Panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2016 in California, [25] [26] and his collaborators at Filmatics showcased Eye for an Eye at the Hollywood VR Summit 2016 and SXSW 2016. [27] In 2017, he founded Fever Content, the transmedia production sister company to Filmatics, in collaboration with producing partner Craig Bernard. [21]

Petridis has been a member of the Directors Guild of America since 2011.[ citation needed ]

Eric Darnell is an American animator, storyboard artist, director, screenwriter, songwriter and occasional voice actor best known for co-directing Antz with Tim Johnson, as well as co-directing and co-writing Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted with Tom McGrath, as well as the spin off Penguins of Madagascar (2014) with Simon J. Smith.

Founded by David Ellison in 2006, the company entered a five-year partnership to co-produce and co-finance films with Paramount Pictures starting in 2009, and renewed the agreement twice extending to 2021. The company specializes in films, animation, television, video games, and sports.

Eastern Shadows started out in 2009 as a film and music transmedia project. Founded by Nimal J (Fujii) in LA the project is now based out of Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA, Fujii also toured as live band under the same name but other projects have taken precedence and the band is retired. Now focussed on Virtual Reality media production Eastern Shadows has partnered with Arizona State University to develop content for their Baseball and Football programs. As ASU Sun Devil Athletics supporters they are working to use available VR technology and apply it to training and entertainment products based around Sun Devil activities.

A virtual reality headset is a head-mounted device that provides virtual reality for the wearer. VR headsets are widely used with VR video games but they are also used in other applications, including simulators and trainers. VR headsets typically include a stereoscopic display, stereo sound, and sensors like accelerometers and gyroscopes for tracking the pose of the user's head to match the orientation of the virtual camera with the user's eye positions in the real world.

Bridgegate Pictures is an American film production company and public entity trading on the OTC Markets under the ticker symbol BBGP. FoxNext, LLC was a virtual reality and theme park unit of 20th Century Fox, now known as 20th Century Studios. It was established in 2017 prior to Disney's acquisition of Fox and operated under the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products unit of The Walt Disney Company. It handled the development and publishing of virtual reality and augmented reality titles, as well as the development of 20th Century Studios's theme and amusement parks. The division's president was Salil Mehta, a former executive from NBCUniversal and The Walt Disney Company, who has been with Fox since 2013 who later returned to Disney after Disney acquired Fox in 2019 until on January 23, 2020, when the company was sold to Scopely.
