Eligijus Masiulis (born 15 October 1974) is a former Lithuanian politician and convicted felon. He has represented Liberal Movement party from 2008 to 2016. From 2008 to 2012 he was Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania. [1]
In May 2016 Liberal Movement leader Masiulis stepped down after €106k bribe allegations [2] from MG Baltic,one of the largest business groups in the Baltic countries. [3] Antanas Guoga,was made the temporary leader of the Liberal Movement following the potential bribery scandal that prompted Eligijus Masiulis to step down. Masiulis may not have been the only person involved in potentially corrupt activities. [4] After 2 years of investigation,the case charging Masiulis and MG Baltic has reached the court. [5] National Security and Defence Committee of Seimas is currently investigating businesses influence on Lithuanian politics. [6]
In 2023 November 22 he was convicted by the appeals court for bribery,influence peddling and illegal enrichment. He was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison. [7]

Antanas Guoga,more commonly known as Tony G,is a Lithuanian-Australian businessman,poker player,politician and philanthropist. In November 2020,Antanas was elected to the 2020–2024 legislative period of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania in the Labour Party group.

Corruption in the United States is the act of government officials abusing their political powers for private gain,typically through bribery or other methods,in the United States government. Corruption in the United States has been a perennial political issue,peaking in the Jacksonian era and the Gilded Age before declining with the reforms of the Progressive Era.
Parliamentary elections were held in Lithuania on 14 October 2012,with a second round on 28 October in the constituencies where no candidate won a majority in the first round of voting. All 141 seats in the Seimas were up for election;71 in single-seat constituencies elected by majority vote and the remaining 70 in a nationwide constituency based on proportional representation. Together with the elections,a referendum on the construction of a new nuclear power plant was held.

Corruption in Italy is a major problem. In Transparency International's annual surveys,Italy has consistently been regarded as one of the most corrupt countries in the Eurozone. Political corruption remains a major problem particularly in Lombardy,Campania and Sicily where corruption perception is at a high level. Operation Car Wash was a landmark anti-corruption probe in Brazil. Beginning in March 2014 as the investigation of a small car wash in Brasília over money laundering,the proceedings uncovered a massive corruption scheme in the Brazilian federal government,particularly in state-owned enterprises. The probe was conducted through a joint task force of agents in the federal police,revenue collection agency,internal audit office and antitrust regulator. Evidence was collected and presented to the court system by a team of federal prosecutors led by Deltan Dallagnol,while the judge in charge of the operation was Sergio Moro. Eventually,other federal prosecutors and judges would go on to oversee related cases under their jurisdictions in various Brazilian states. The operation implicated leading businessmen,federal congressmen,senators,state governors,federal government ministers,and former presidents Collor,Temer and Lula. Companies and individuals accused of involvement have agreed to pay 25 billion reais in fines and restitution of embezzled public funds.
