Early Life/High School

Elijah Wellman [1] was born October 20, 1994 to Brian Wellman and Mrs. Wellman. Wellman has two siblings, big brother Zach and little sister Sophie. Wellman grew up in Wayne County, West Virginia. He attended Spring Valley High School [2] for four years, then graduated after the 2013 season.

Playing for the Mountaineers

Wellman signed with West Virginia University in 2014.

Freshman and Sophomore seasons (2014-15)

Wellman came onto the scene and made a small impact as a role player for the Mountaineers, playing in only five games and making two rushes for four yards, as well as four receptions for eleven yards and his first career touchdown. In the 2015 season, Wellman played in a career-high eight games, also recording a career-high fourteen rushes for 73 yards, and a touchdown, as well as five receptions for sixteen yards and two scores, scoring a season-record three touchdowns in a season. [3]

Junior and Senior seasons (2016-17)

Wellman did not make as big of an impact in his final two seasons in the scoring game, and morphed into more of a blocker at the fullback spot. Wellman still rushed 14 times in his junior year, but was less productive, going for only 44 yards. His receiving numbers were much lower too, with a mere two receptions for eight yards. His senior year brought five rushes for sixteen yards and a career-high 36 receiving yards and nine catches. Wellman finished his career with four touchdowns, not a single one in his last two years, as well as 137 total rushing yards and 71 receiving yards in his 4-year college career. [4]

NFL Career

Washington Redskins (2018-19)

Wellman was not selected in the 2018 NFL Draft, then signed with the Washington Redskins on a three-year deal worth a total of $1.71 million dollars guaranteed. Wellman was released two years into his contract, and paid a settlement fee. [5]

Green Bay Packers (2020)

Wellman signed a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers worth $610,000 of non-guaranteed money [6] , the lowest fullback contract in the 2020 NFL.
