Elin McCoy is an American wine and spirits columnist for Bloomberg Markets , international wine judge, and a contributor to publications such as Food & Wine , The New York Times , House & Garden and Zester Daily .

Education

McCoy obtained her degree from the University of Pennsylvania and later attended graduate school at the University of London and New York University. [1]

Books

McCoy is the author of the 2005 book The Emperor of Wine, the unauthorised biography of Robert Parker, [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] She also wrote "Reign of American Taste," co-authored "Thinking About Wine," a number of children's books, a parenting book, and a travel guide. [1]

She has also co-authored several books with her husband John Frederick Walker, as well as a long-running column in Food & Wine. [7]

Career

McCoy writes a bimonthly column for Bloomberg News' global news wire [8] along with a monthly column for Bloomberg Markets and Zesterdaily.com. For 25 years, McCoy was a contributing editor at Food & Wine. She has since worked as a columnist for House Beautiful, Las Vegas Life, Shattered, and Drink.

Personal

She is married to writer and artist John Frederick Walker. Together they live in Kent, Connecticut. [1]

Frank Musselman Schoonmaker was an American travel guide writer, wine writer and wine merchant. He was born in Spearfish, South Dakota, and attended for two years at Princeton University, after which he dropped out in 1925 to live and travel in Europe. He wrote two travel guides, Through Europe on Two Dollars a Day and Come with me to France, and, with the approaching end of Prohibition in the United States, researched and wrote a series of articles for The New Yorker. While involved in this latter project he met Raymond Baudoin, the editor of the La Revue du vin de France, who took him under his wing and taught him about wine, touring the various wine regions of France.

Alexis Lichine was a Russian wine writer and entrepreneur. He played a key role in promoting varietal labelling of wine, was a masterful salesman of wine, had interests in two Bordeaux wineries, owning Château Prieuré-Lichine in Margaux and a share of Château Lascombes in the Médoc. He was married to actress Arlene Dahl from 1964 to 1969.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Garagistes</span>

The garagistes refers to a group of winemakers in the Bordeaux region, producing "vins de garage", "garage wine". A group emerged in the mid-1990s in reaction to the traditional style of red Bordeaux wine, which is highly tannic and requires long ageing in the bottle to become drinkable. The garagistes developed a style more consistent with perceived international wine tastes.

Hugh Eric Allan Johnson is an English journalist, author, editor, and expert on wine. He is considered the world's best-selling wine writer. A wine he tasted in 1964, a 1540 Steinwein from the German vineyard Würzburger Stein, is considered one of the oldest to have ever been tasted.

André Simon was a French-born wine merchant, gourmet, and prolific writer about wine. Hugh Johnson describes him as "the charismatic leader of the English wine trade for almost all of the first half of the 20th century, and the grand old man of literate connoisseurship for a further 20 years".

Michael Steinberger is an American author and journalist, who served as the wine columnist of the internet magazine Slate from 2002 to 2011.

Alice Feiring is an American journalist and author, for several years a wine and travel columnist for Time magazine, and known as an advocate for "natural wine".

Peter Liem is an American wine critic, a senior correspondent for Wine & Spirits, and since 2009 the author and publisher of the online subscription guide to wines and producers of Champagne, ChampagneGuide.net, and has co-authored a book on the subject of Sherry. Liem has also contributed to publications such as San Francisco Chronicle, Zester Daily and The World of Fine Wine.

Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher are American journalists, authors, and wine critics, wife and husband who jointly wrote the wine column "Tastings" in The Wall Street Journal between 1998 and 2009. They rated wines on a scale that ranged from "Yech", "OK", "Good", "Very Good", "Delicious" to "Delicious!". Their careers began simultaneously and have remained connected since their first meeting in the newsroom of The Miami Herald in 1973.

Anthony Rose is a British wine journalist known for his column in The Independent, which ran for the length of the print version from 1986 to 2016. He also contributes to publications such as Decanter, The Real Review , The Financial Times How to Spend It online and The Oxford Companion to Wine . Rose has contributed to several wine books including Wine Report, The Oxford Companion to Wine, and for five years co-authored the annual consumer guide Grapevine with Tim Atkin. Rose was one of four UK wine writers, along with Joanna Simon, David Williams and Jane Parkinson, to launch an online wine ratings magazine for the UK called The Wine Gang. Lettie Teague is an American author and currently a wine columnist for The Wall Street Journal. Teague was for several years with Food & Wine, as wine editor of the magazine from 1997 and executive wine editor 2005–2009.

Matt Kramer is an American wine critic since 1976. He is a columnist for The Oregonian, was a columnist for The New York Sun before its demise in 2008, and previously for Los Angeles Times, and since 1985 is a regular contributor to Wine Spectator. He has been described as "perhaps the most un-American of all America's wine writers", by Mike Steinberger as "one of the more insightful and entertaining wine writers around", and by Hugh Johnson as "an intellectual guerrilla among wine writers".

Robert Parker: Les Sept Péchés capiteux, translated as Robert Parker: The Seven Heady Sins, written by Benoist Simmat and drawn by Philippe Bercovici, is a French satirical comics album published in October 2010. A slogan on the book's cover reads, "L'Anti-Guide Parker", the antithesis to Le guide Parker, the French term for Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide.

Erica De Mane is an American chef, food writer, and teacher who specializes in Italian cooking. She is the author of The Flavors of Southern Italy, Pasta Improvvisata, and Williams-Sonoma Pasta, and contributed to the Italian section of the 1997 revision of Joy of Cooking. She is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, the Italy-based international Slow Food movement, and the Culinary Historians of New York.
