Eliss is a puzzle video game developed and published by San Francisco-based developer Steph Thirion. [1] It was released for the iPhone OS on March 6, 2009.

Eliss' gameplay revolves around filling "squeesars" with planets of like color and size. Planets can be combined, split, and moved around using the multi-touch interface. Further complication is added by passing red stars and vortices.

Gameplay

Each sector has a required number of squeesars that must be filled to advance to the next stage. Players can manipulate multiple objects at a time using the multi-touch capabilities of the iPhone. Planets of like color can be combined, resulting in a larger planet, or divided (using a reverse-pinching motion), creating two smaller planets. Overlapping planets of different colors decreases health as well as shrinking the size of clashing planets. Red stars transverse the screen causing damage to all planets that they touch and should be avoided, while transient vortices attract all planets not held down. Energy and slow-down powerups appear to aid the player. A level ends when the required number of squeesars are filled, or all health is lost.

Eliss was built by Steph Thirion. It is a multitouch puzzle game. Thirion released an expanded edition of the game, Eliss Infinity, for iOS in February 2014, and later, for Android in June. [3] The June release came with upgrades for the interface, sounds, and gentler difficulty curve. The game's 2009 original and 2014 updated soundtracks were also released in June as two digital EPs. [2]

An updated version, called Eliss Infinity (stylized as Eliss ∞), was released for iOS and Android in early 2014 and mid-2014, respectively. [4] [5] The game was included in the Humble Mobile Bundle 6. [6]

Reception

Eliss received generally positive reception, identified as the "first truly great mobile game" by GameZebo. [7] Eliss won the Auteur Award at IndieCade (the International Festival of Independent Games) in 2009. [8] Destructoid writer Brad Nicholson was critical of the game's difficulty curve, feeling that the action gets too hectic and hard to follow. The author notes, however, that the patch allegedly fixed the difficulty issue, though he was not able to try the patched version before the review was conducted. [9] MacWorld writer David Price found the gameplay of Eliss Infinity engaging and fast, praising it for its good difficulty curve. [10] '"GameZebo writer Joe Jasko praised it as an improvement on an already great game, thanks particularly to its endless mode. [7]

Space Invaders Infinity Gene is a shoot 'em up game released as part of the Space Invaders franchise. The game blends the series classic characters and gameplay with the concept of evolution. The game was developed by Taito and distributed by Square Enix. The game was released for iOS on July 27, 2009, after first appearing on Japanese mobile phones, and was later released for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in September 2010, and for Android in September 2011.

<i>Star Trigon</i> 2002 video game

Star Trigon is a 2002 puzzle arcade game published in Japan by Namco. Ports for iPod, iOS devices and Windows were also released. In the game, the player controls one of three characters — Wataru Hoshi, Chuta Bigbang and Susumu Hori — the objective being to rescue creatures known as "Uchijins" by hopping from planet to planet to draw triangles and capture them. The player will automatically circle the planet they are on, requiring timed jumps to avoid falling off the playfield. It ran on the Namco System 10 hardware.

<i>Infinity Blade</i> 2010 video game

Infinity Blade was an action role-playing game developed by Chair Entertainment and Epic Games and released through the Apple App Store on December 9, 2010. It was the first iOS video game to run on the Unreal Engine. In the game, the unnamed player character fights a series of one-on-one battles in a derelict castle to face the immortal God King. When in battle, players swipe the screen to attack and parry, and tap the screen to dodge and block enemy attacks. Upon defeat, the player restarts the game as the character's descendant with the same items and experience level.

Asphalt is a series of racing video games developed and published by Gameloft. Games in the series typically focus on fast-paced arcade racing set in various locales throughout the world, tasking players to complete races while evading the local law enforcement in police pursuits.

DJMax Mobile is a version of the DJMax rhythm action game specifically developed for mobile phones. As of 2011, two separate titles exists of the game from separate developers who licensed the DJMax brand from the Pentavision. These mobile games were available only in Korea. DJMax Mobile has two different gameplay styles. First mode is similar to DJMax Portable series where you press physical buttons at a specific time. However, if you mobile phone has a touch-screen capability you can also play the game in year 2009 version using mode which is similar to DJMax Technika where you do very specific touch gestures to control the game. DJMax Mobile games are not considered as a part of the main game series because they weren't developed by Pentavision and quality of these games is average even when compared to other similar mobile games. Both of these games are discontinued. The spiritual successor for the DJMax Mobile series is called Tap Sonic.
