Ella van Poucke (born 1994) is a Dutch classical cellist. She has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. From 2010, she has directed a chamber music festival in Amsterdam. Poucke has lectured at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam from September 2022.
Poucke was born in Amsterdam in 1994 to a family of musicians. [1] She received cello lessons from age six, and studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague from age ten. She studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Godfried Hoogeveen , [2] taking masterclasses with Steven Isserlis, Menahem Pressler and András Schiff, among others. [1] She studied at the Kronberg Academy with Frans Helmerson from 2009 to 2016, [2] supported by an Opel/Schaefer Scholarship. She then became artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels, [1] studying with Gary Hoffman until 2019. [2]
Poucke played at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam first at age ten. She has performed as a soloist with orchestras such Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Strings, Varsovia Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Wrocław, Tongyeong Festival Orchestra, working with conductors including Michael Sanderling and Christoph Eschenbach. Poucke is a member of the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society. Her chamber music partners have included violinists Vilde Frang, Gidon Kremer and Christian Tetzlaff, and violist Tabea Zimmermann, among others. [1] In 2010, she founded with her brother, the pianist Nicolas van Poucke , the Chamber Music Festival Amsterdam, serving as its artistic director. She was chosen “Rising Star” in Amsterdam, giving her the chance to perform two programs of her choice at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in the 2013/14 season. [1]
In November 2012, she was the soloist in the world premiere of a cello concerto composed for her by Uljas Pulkkis . She played it at the International Cello Biennale in Amsterdam, and repeated it at the 2013 Kronberg Festival with members of the hr-Sinfonieorchester. [1] When the Kronberg Academy's new concert hall, the Casals Forum, opened in 2022, she appeared as a soloist, playing Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Kremerata Baltica. [3]
For her first recording, she chose the complete works for cello by Robert Schumann, the Cello Concerto, with the Phíon Orchestra conducted by Günter Neuhold, and works for cello and piano, with pianist Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden . A reviewer from Gramophone credited her with "a strong feel for Schumann's Romantic sensibility", [4] and noted that her playing in the concerto was "distinguished by its spontaneity and delicacy". [4]
Poucke has lectured at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. [5] from 1 September 2022. [6] She played a cello built by Pieter Rombouts (1667–1740), [1] and turned to an instrument built in 1620 by Giovanni Paolo Maggini, [5] both on loan from an anonymous sponsor. [1] [5]
Her awards include being named Dutch Musician of the Year in 2012, the special prize for an outstanding performance at the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann in 2014, and the first prize at the 2015 Isang Yun cello competition 2015. [2] [5]
The Gramophone Classical Music Awards, launched in 1977, are one of the most significant honours bestowed on recordings in the classical record industry. They are often viewed as equivalent to or surpassing the American Grammy award, and referred to as the Oscars for classical music. They are widely regarded as the most influential and prestigious classical music awards in the world. According to Matthew Owen, national sales manager for Harmonia Mundi USA, "ultimately it is the classical award, especially worldwide."
David Geringas is a Lithuanian cellist and conductor who studied under Mstislav Rostropovich. In 1970 he won the gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. He also plays the baryton, a rare instrument associated with music of Joseph Haydn.
Nina Kotova is an American cellist of Eastern European decent. As well as being a versatile artist and an established composer she is a recording artist who performs both as a soloist with major orchestras and as a chamber musician.

Lars Vogt was a German classical pianist, conductor and academic teacher. Noted by The New York Times for his interpretations of Brahms, Vogt performed as a soloist with major orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic. He was the music director of the Orchestre de chambre de Paris at the time of his death and also served as the music director of the Royal Northern Sinfonia. He ran a festival of chamber music, Spannungen, from 1998, and succeeded his teacher Karl-Heinz Kämmerling as professor of piano at the Musikhochschule Hannover.

Kate Dillingham is an American classical cellist from New York City. She performs as a soloist and as a chamber musician, and is Artistic Director of the ArtsAhimsa Chamber Music Festival. A voting member of the Recording Academy (GRAMMY’s) and President of the Violoncello Society of New York (VCS), Dillingham made her debut with orchestra in Russia in 1998 with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra "The Seasons" and in Saint Petersburg with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic "Hermitage." In 2002, she made her New York debut recital at Merkin Concert Hall premiering a commissioned work by Augusta Read Thomas ("Chant") and premiered a solo work by Jennifer Higdon. Her recordings were licensed for use in the films La rafle and Les Berlinoises. A former student of Bernard Greenhouse, she is the Artistic Director of the Wellfleet CelloFest, held in honor of the centenary of his birth. Dillingham also studied with Maria Tchaikovskaya at the Moscow Conservatory. A teacher and inventor, she founded MyBlueSkiesMusic.com - an online teaching platform for musicians.
