Eloy Casagrande (born 29 January 1991) is a Brazilian musician, best known as the former drummer of Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura. He is currently the drummer of Slipknot and Casagrande & Hanysz.

Biography

Casagrande began playing at age seven, [1] when he got a toy drum from his mother; after a year, he got a real drum kit.[ citation needed ] He was notably taught by fellow Brazilian drummer Aquiles Priester. [2] In 2004, at age 13, he was the winner of the Batuka International Drummer Fest, sponsored by Vera Figueiredo. [3] Later, Casagrande also won Modern Drummer 's Undiscovered Drummer Contest 2005 [4] [5] [6] in New Jersey, and the following year, toured the United States. [7]

Casagrande joined Sepultura in November 2011, [5] [8] replacing Jean Dolabella. He recorded three albums with the band before his departure in February 2024 and is the second youngest member of Sepultura, with his replacement Greyson Nekrutman being 11 years his junior. [9] [10] Casagrande is also known for his time with power metal vocalist Andre Matos, white metal Brazilian band Iahweh and post-hardcore/metalcore band Gloria, [6] and has a project called Casagrande & Hanysz with guitarist João Hanysz. [11]

In April 2024, Slipknot officially confirmed that Casagrande would be replacing Jay Weinberg as the band's drummer. [12] [13] His first show with the band was on April 25, 2024, at Pappy & Harriet's Palace in California, USA. In the same year he joined the band, Eloy Casagrande was voted Best Metal Drummer in Modern Drummer magazine's 2024 Readers' Poll [14]

The group's creation marked the end of a 10-year feud between the Cavalera brothers who founded Sepultura in the early 1980s. Jay Bradley Weinberg is an American musician who is best known as the former drummer of the heavy metal band Slipknot. He is the son of longtime Bruce Springsteen drummer Max Weinberg. He played with the punk rock band the Reveling and toured in 2009 as a drummer with Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, substituting for his father. During 2010, he was briefly the drummer for Madball. During 2011 and 2012, Weinberg played with Against Me!. In 2014, Weinberg replaced Joey Jordison as the drummer for Slipknot, and stayed with the band until his firing in November 2023. In 2024, Weinberg was announced as the new drummer for Infectious Grooves, replacing Brooks Wackerman, and is also currently in Suicidal Tendencies.
