The Embassy of Malaysia in the Netherlands is the diplomatic mission of Malaysia and is situated in The Hague, Netherlands. It is located at Rustenburgweg 2 in The Hague, in a diplomatic area of the capital of the Netherlands. Opening hours are from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday. [1]

Brief History

When Malaysia (then Malaya) applied to join the United Nations in 1957, the Netherlands was one of the countries that voted “yes” during the roll call for the admission of new members, making it possible for the Federation of Malaya to become the 82nd the member of the United Nations. [2] Although the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries started in that same year, Malaysia only established its resident Embassy in The Hague in September 1966. It moved to its permanent building at Rustenburgweg in the summer of 1985.

The earliest recorded historical relation between the two nations are the trade relations between the Malacca Sultanate and the Ryūkyū Kingdom in the 15th century. Small numbers of Japanese settlers migrated to various parts of present-day Malaysia throughout the 19th century. This continued well into the 20th century, until relations reached an abrupt nadir with the rise of the Empire of Japan and its subsequent invasion and occupation of British Malaya and Borneo during World War II. Relations gradually improved after the war, culminating in Malaysia's "Look East" policy during the first premiership of Mahathir Mohamad in the 1980s.

Consulate General of Malaysia in Chennai

The Consulate General of Malaysia for Southern India is one of the three missions of Malaysia in India focusing on Malaysian interests in the region. It is located in Chennai and its jurisdiction includes the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and the union territory of Puducherry. The other two are the Malaysian High Commission in New Delhi and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai, in addition to an honorary office in Kolkata. The current Consul General of the Chennai Consulate is Saravanan Karathihayan. He is the fifth Consul General of the Chennai Consulate succeeding Ahmad Fajarazam bin Abdul Jalil and is the 21st head of mission since the establishment of the Mission in 1961.

Fauziah Mohd Taib

Dato' Dr. Fauziah binti Mohamad Taib is a Malaysian diplomat and published author. She was previously the Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a post she held from 13 August 2008 until her retirement in 2015. She also served as the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which is based in The Hague.
