Emily Austin (born May 24, 2001) [1] is an American journalist, social media influencer, model, actress, and independent NBA broadcaster. [2]
Austin was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Israeli parents, [3] and grew up on Long Island, New York. [4] [5] She went to North Shore Hebrew Academy for high school, graduating in 2019, [6] and then attended Hofstra University to study journalism. [5] [7] [8] Austin's parents are secular Jews, but she decided to keep kosher at a young age. [9] She has visited Israel since her youth and follows Jewish traditions such as keeping kosher, making Kiddush, lighting Shabbat candles, and not working on Shabbat. [5] [7] [9]
In 2021, Austin started her sports journalism career by reaching out to professional athletes for interviews during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, while she was still a sophomore journalism student at Hofstra University. [5] A former athlete, Austin began interviewing athletes on Instagram for her vlog show, Daily Vibes with Emily Austin. [5] [10] [11] This led her to working at MTV on Music Lives On. She also worked for Sports Illustrated as a host at NFL and boxing events. [8] [10]
In 2023, Austin started an NBA podcast called The Hoop Chat w/ Emily Austin which has featured NBA players, [12] [13] [10] such as Josh Giddey, [14] Grant Williams, [15] Mitchell Robinson,[ citation needed ] Immanuel Quickley,[ citation needed ] Jalen Brunson, [11] and Chet Holmgren. [20] Since the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, Austin has been vocal on the issue of antisemitism, [21] coming out in support of Israel on social media and visiting southern Israeli border communities in December 2023. Antisemitism or Jew-hatred is hostility to, prejudice towards, or discrimination against, Jews. This sentiment is a form of racism, and a person who harbours it is called an antisemite. Primarily, antisemitic tendencies may be motivated by negative sentiment towards Jews as a people or by negative sentiment towards Jews with regard to Judaism. In the former case, usually presented as racial antisemitism, a person's hostility is driven by the belief that Jews constitute a distinct race with inherent traits or characteristics that are repulsive or inferior to the preferred traits or characteristics within that person's society. Accordingly, David A. Gerber concludes that antisemitism "has been a distinctly minor feature of the nation's historical development." Historian Britt Tevis argue that, "Handlin and Higham’s ideas remain influential, and many American Jewish historians continue to present antisemitism as largely insignificant, momentary, primarily social."

Zionist antisemitism or antisemitic Zionism refers to a phenomenon in which antisemites express support for Zionism and the State of Israel. In some cases, this support may be promoted for explicitly antisemitic reasons. Historically, this type of antisemitism has been most notable among Christian Zionists, who may perpetrate religious antisemitism while being outspoken in their support for Jewish sovereignty in Israel due to their interpretation of Christian eschatology.
