Emmanuel Khamis Richard is a South Sudanese politician. He was the Acting Mayor of Juba City Council before being sacked for assaulting a female stress vendor. [1] [2] He is the Commissioner for Lainya County in Central Equatoria in the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity as of 2023. [3] [4]

Biography

Khamis as the Commissioner of Kupera County, [5] and was appointed as Commissioner for Lainya County, in Central Equatoria in the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity, through a decree by President Salva Kiir in February 2021 when the unity government was formed. [6] Khamis was also appointed as caretaker Mayor for the municipal council on July 27 by Central Equatoria State Governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony through a gubernatorial decree. He replaced Michael Lado Allah-Jabu. [7]

In May 2023, Khamis appealed to holdout groups in the area to return home and help in restoring peace in the country. [8] In the same month of May he also removed about six check points previously erected along the Juba-Lainya-Yei Road hindering effective movement of pedestrians and travellers plying the highway. [9]

However, in September 2023, the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) recommended the instant removal of Emmanuel Khamis as the acting mayor of Juba City Council (JCC) for assaulting a female street vendor. [10] The incident, which was captured in a video that went viral on social media, showed Khamis wielding a pistol in his right hand and physically assaulting a female vendor selling mosquito nets at the Seventh-day Adventist roundabout. Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba is a South Sudanese politician. She is the current Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare of South Sudan. She founded the Sudan women Parliamentary Caucus in 2004 at the start of the comprehensive peace agreement. She was chosen by the SPLM as the speaker of the Revitalised Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA). She became the first woman to preside over the parliament of South Sudan.

Its county seat was Juba, the state capital of Central Equatoria and the national capital of the Republic of South Sudan.

Clement Wani Konga is a Mundari leader who fought in the Anyanya independence movement in the south of Sudan in 1969−72. He then joined the army of Sudan and rose to the rank of major general. In 2004 he made peace with the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and was appointed interim governor of Central Equatoria in South Sudan. In August 2015 he was dismissed from his post by president Salva Kiir Mayardit. He continued to be active as chairperson of the Mundari Community.

Aggrey Jaden Road also known as "Juba-Yei-Morobo-Kaya Road", is a highway which connects South Sudan to the Uganda border. The road stretches from Juba which serves as the capital and the largest city in the country connection via Lainya County to Yei, Morobo and Kaya which is the border point. The road was renamed after Aggrey Jaden who was a revolutionary freedom fighter for the struggle of South Sudan independence.

Michael Lado Thomas Allah-Jabu is a South Sudanese politician. He is the former mayor of Juba City Council in Central Equatoria State as of 2023. Allah-Jabu was appointed by Central Equatoria State Governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony in November 19, 2021, replacing Kalisto Lado who was removed in a gubernatorial decree.
