Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum is a member of parliament for Nkoranza South Constituency in the Bono East Region of Ghana. [1] [2] [3] In May 2022, he claimed that the Ghana Police shot live bullets during the Nkoranza shooting and urged Ghanaians to rise against police brutalities. [4] [5]
Agyekum is a Seventh-day Adventist. [1] [6] He is married to Adwoa Santuo Agyekum.
He was born on 3 December 1973 in Nkoranza in the Bono East Region of Ghana. [1] He attended the University of Westminster in London, where he obtained an MA in global business in 2007. He also had IMBA at the International Graduate Center. He further went to the University of Applied Science in Bremen, Germany, in 2008. [1]
He is a member of the National Democratic Congress. [2] [1] During the 2020 general elections he made a comeback and won the Nkoranza South Constituency parliamentary seat with 29,408 votes (56.8% of total votes cast), whilst the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate Konadu-Yiadom Charles had 22,219 votes (42.9% of the total votes cast), and the People's National Convention (PNC) candidate Florence Ampour had 121 votes (0.2% of the total votes cast). He was the former deputy minister of local government between 2013 and January 2017. Before contesting the seat as an MP, he was the MCE[ clarification needed ] for Nkoranza South Municipality from January 2009 to January 2013. He won the seat for the first time by defeating the incumbent MP, Ampofo Twumasi of the NPP. He lost his seat to Charles Konadu Yiadom of the NPP during the 2016 general elections and made a comeback in the 2020 general elections and won. [8] [9]
He is a member of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee and also a member of the Works and Housing Committee. [10]
He was the CEO of Special Care Recruitment Consultancy in London, United Kingdom. He was also the municipal chief executive of Nkoranza South Municipality from May 2009 to January 2013. [1]
