The University of Ibadan (UI) is a public research university in Ibadan, Nigeria. The university was once a college of the University of London. The college was established in 1948 as University College Ibadan, one of many colleges within the University of London. It became an independent university in 1962 and is the oldest degree-awarding institution in Nigeria. Through its graduate network, the University of Ibadan has contributed to the political, industrial, economic and cultural development of Nigeria.

Theophilus Oladipo Ogunlesi, was a Nigerian academic and medical doctor recognized as the first professor of medicine in Nigeria. Born in Sagamu, Ogun State, Ogunlesi began his education at St. Paul Primary School, Sagamu, before attending CMS Grammar School, Lagos, where he obtained his secondary school certificate in 1940. He continued his studies at Higher College, Yaba, for pre-medical and medical training. He later attended the University of London and University of Minnesota where he obtained his postgraduate degrees.
Ebenezer Olatunde Farombi is a Nigerian professor of Biochemistry and Toxicology at the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He is the Dean of the college and also the director, Molecular Drug Metabolism and Toxicology Laboratories in the University. He is a member of the Nigerian Academy of Science.
Peter Achunike Akah is a Nigerian professor of pharmacology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was, several times, the head of Pharmacology Department, University of Nigeria; associate dean, School of Postgraduate Studies and dean, Students Affair of the same university. Akah is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria and a Fellow of Nigerian Academy of Science. Akah is in the editorial board of the Global Journal of Medicinal Plants Research; Tropical Journal of Natural Product Research; and African Journal of Traditional Herbal Medicine Supporters Initiative. He served as chief editor of the Journal of Medicinal Plants Research (JMPR), African Journal of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (AJOPRED) and Continental Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CJPS). He was the vice chancellor of the Imo State University. Akah's publications have been cited 7200 times by other scholars, making him one of the most cited Nigerian scholars.
