Eric Patrick Newell,OC,AOE,(born December 16,1944) was the 17th chancellor of the University of Alberta,having previously served as chair of its board of governors. He is a former chairman and CEO of the oil company Syncrude.
In 1999,he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada for being an "advocate of business and education partnerships" and promoting "employment and business opportunities for Aboriginal people." [1] In 2004,he was awarded the Alberta Order of Excellence.
As an undergraduate he attended the University of British Columbia,and is an alumnus of the Theta chapter of Sigma Phi Delta.

The Alberta Order of Excellence is a civilian honour for merit in the Canadian province of Alberta. Instituted in 1979 when Lieutenant Governor Frank C. Lynch-Staunton granted royal assent to the Alberta Order of Excellence Act,the order is administered by the Governor-in-Council and is intended to honour current or former Alberta residents for conspicuous achievements in any field,being thus described as the highest honour amongst all others conferred by the Canadian Crown in right of Alberta.
Raymond Urgel Lemieux,CC,AOE,FRS was a Canadian organic chemist,who pioneered many discoveries in the field of chemistry,his first and most famous being the synthesis of sucrose. His contributions include the discovery of the anomeric effect and the development of general methodologies for the synthesis of saccharides still employed in the area of carbohydrate chemistry. He was a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Royal Society (England),and a recipient of the prestigious Albert Einstein World Award of Science and Wolf Prize in Chemistry.
Ronald Martland,was a Canadian lawyer and Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. He was the second Albertan appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada,taking the place of Justice Nolan,who died after only a short time on the Court.
James Robert Shaw was a Canadian businessman. He founded Alberta-based Shaw Communications in 1966 and was the executive chairman of the company. As of 2016,Shaw and other members of his family controlled 85 percent of the Class A voting shares of Corus Entertainment,and 80 per cent of the class A voting shares of Shaw Communications. Shaw sat on the board of directors of Suncor Energy from 2001 to 2007. The School of Business at NAIT is named after him.
Sheldon Kennedy is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played for the Detroit Red Wings,Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League (NHL). Kennedy was drafted by the Red Wings in the fourth round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft while playing with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In the WHL,Kennedy helped the Broncos capture the 1989 Memorial Cup,and was named to the tournament all-star team. Kennedy represented Canada internationally at the World Junior Championships in 1988 and 1989. He helped Canada win a gold medal at the 1988 tournament. Kennedy was born in Brandon,Manitoba,but grew up in Elkhorn,Manitoba.

Harley Norman Hotchkiss,was a Canadian business and community leader who was best known for his contributions to health and sports development in Canada. He was part of the consortium that brought the Atlanta Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL) to Calgary in 1980,and remained a part-owner of the Calgary Flames until shortly before his death. For much of that time,he was the team's governor,and hence the public face of the ownership group. He served as chairman of the board of the NHL between 1995 and 2007,and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 2006.

David William Schindler,,was an American/Canadian limnologist. He held the Killam Memorial Chair and was Professor of Ecology in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta in Edmonton,Alberta. He was notable for "innovative large-scale experiments" on whole lakes at the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA) which proved that "phosphorus controls the eutrophication in temperate lakes leading to the banning of phosphates in detergents. He was also known for his research on acid rain. In 1989,Schindler moved from the ELA to continue his research at the University of Alberta in Edmonton,with studies into fresh water shortages and the effects of climate disruption on Canada's alpine and northern boreal ecosystems. Schindler's research had earned him numerous national and international awards,including the Gerhard Herzberg Gold Medal,the First Stockholm Water Prize (1991) the Volvo Environment Prize (1998),and the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement (2006).
Clare James Drake was a Canadian ice hockey coach. He was the most successful coach in Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's hockey history. In 28 years as the head coach of the University of Alberta men's ice hockey team,he coached the Alberta Golden Bears to six University Cup championships and 17 Canada West conference championships. The "dean of coaching," Clare developed the game for more than 40 years,coaching at the high school,university,Olympic and WHA level. The only university coach to win a national championship in both hockey and football in the same year (1967),he was instrumental in the development of the National Coaching Certification and Coach Mentorship Programs. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017.
