Ernst Deutsch Theater is a theatre in Hamburg, Germany. [1] The former cinema in the Uhlenhorst quarter is Germany's largest privately owned theatre. It has been founded in 1951 [2] and was named after the famous actor Ernst Deutsch. Today the theatre with seating facilities for 744 people specializes in contemporary plays.

Ernst Deutsch, also known as Ernest Dorian, was a Jewish Austrian actor. In 1916, his performance as the protagonist in the world première of Walter Hasenclever's Expressionist play The Son in Dresden was praised. Deutsch also played the antihero Famulus in Paul Wegener's The Golem: How He Came into the World in 1920. He is known by English-speaking audiences for his role as Baron Kurtz in Carol Reed's 1949 film noir, The Third Man.

Volker Lechtenbrink was a German actor on stage, in film and television, a singer-songwriter, dubbing artist, stage director and theatre manager. He played in the anti-war movie The Bridge in 1959 at age 14. He appeared in popular television series including Der Kommissar, Der Alte and Tatort. Lechtenbrink was stage director at the Ernst Deutsch Theater in Hamburg, and intendant of the Bad Hersfelder Festspiele.

Tyrolean State Theatre

The Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck is the state theatre in Innsbruck, Austria, located near the historic Altstadt section of the city. The theatre is surrounded by Imperial Hofburg, the Hofgarten, and SOWI Faculty of the University of Innsbruck. The main theatre has about 800 seats and the studio theatre in the basement has around 250. Plays, operas, operettas, musicals and dance theatre are performed at the theatre.

The Stadttheater Bremerhaven is a theatre in Bremerhaven, Germany. Founded in 1867, it serves three genres: opera and other musical theatre, spoken plays, and dance. A theatre built on the present site in 1911 was largely destroyed in World War II; a new house was built in 1952 which incorporated the surviving Jugendstil facade. The smaller Bürgerhaus Lehe, which served as a home before the rebuilding, is currently used as a venue for chamber pieces.

The Gustaf Gründgens Prize is a German theatre award. It is named after the actor, director and intendant Gustaf Gründgens and is awarded for "significant contribution to the performing arts in Hamburg". The prize is endowed with €15,000. Since 2012, it has been awarded on the initiative of Lions Clubs Hamburg at the Ernst Deutsch Theater. A jury decides the winner.
