Esabalu is a village located on the border of Vihiga and Kisumu counties in western Kenya. [2]

Vihiga County is an administrative region in the former Western Province of Kenya whose headquarters are in Mbale, the largest town in the county. The county has a population of 554,622 and an area of 563 km². Vihiga County was split from Kakamega County in 1990.

Its borders follow those of the original Kisumu District, one of the former administrative districts of the former Nyanza Province in western Kenya. Its headquarters is Kisumu City. Geography

Esabalu is located approximately 5,400 feet above sea level, and lies directly on the equator. It receives about 40 inches of rainfall per year. [3]

An equator of a rotating spheroid is its zeroth circle of latitude (parallel). It is the imaginary line on the spheroid, equidistant from its poles, dividing it into northern and southern hemispheres. In other words, it is the intersection of the spheroid with the plane perpendicular to its axis of rotation and midway between its geographical poles.

Under the Köppen climate classification system, Esabalu has an Equatorial Climate (Af). [4]

The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by the German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936. Later, the climatologist Rudolf Geiger introduced some changes to the classification system, which is thus sometimes called the Köppen–Geiger climate classification system.

Demographics

There are approximately 8,500 residents in Esabalu. Most of them are members of the Luhya ethnic group. It is estimated that the population density is over 1,000 people per square kilometer. The three major languages spoken in Esabalu are Luhya, Swahili, and English. [5]

Swahili, also known as Kiswahili, is a Bantu language and the first language of the Swahili people. Comorian, spoken in the Comoros Islands is sometimes considered to be a dialect of Swahili, though other authorities consider it a distinct language.
