Espoon Suunta (EsSu) is an orienteering club based in Espoo, Finland with a strong interest in advancing the elite orienteering as well as youth orienteering and adult fitness orienteering in the western Helsinki capital area. Espoon Suunta is one of biggest Finnish orienteering clubs having 680 members (2013).
Espoon Suunta was founded in 1988, when two clubs: Espoon Rasti and Reima -34 (originally Helsinki-based Kruununhaan Reima) joined to form a new and strong club based on the developing youth work. Reima's youth team had won the Nuorten Jukola Relay in 1988 (Jukola for Youth).
Reima was one of the clubs to take part in the first Jukola Relay in 1949. EsSu's best placing in the relay has been in 1998 as 5th.
Individual achievements of EsSu members include a silver medal in World Orienteering Championships, Ms Marika Mikkola and a World Championship in Mountain Bike Orienteering, Mr Jussi Mäkilä.

eGames is a (inter)national orienteering competition organized annually in early August in the vicinity of Espoo. There's always a good terrain and an excellent map in eGames as well as real classic distances to run and a fast result service.
Huippuliiga, the Finnish top orienteers' competition league, has got a leg in eGames 2008 - 2011. In 2012 Huippuliiga was not organized. In 2013 Espoon Suunta had the Huippuliiga event in April and the race was a sprint orienteering.
eCross was a cross country running event organized annually 2002–2009 in early September in Leppävaara, Espoo. Including running, Nordic walking and youth races it has a splendid reputation among the participants.
Orienteering is a group of sports that involve using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain whilst moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. Haukilahti is a neighbourhood in Espoo, Finland. It is located on the seashore of the Gulf of Finland in the southern part of the city.
The Jukola Relay is an orienteering relay race held annually in Finland since 1949. Jukola is the biggest orienteering relay event in the world. The race takes place on a Saturday between 13 and 19 June in sites around Finland. The northernmost location has been 50 km north of the Arctic Circle. The name Jukola is a family name in the classic Finnish novel, "Seven Brothers". The women's relay, known as the Venla Relay, is a daytime race on the Saturday afternoon. It is named after the main female character from the novel.
Mankkaa (Finnish) or Mankans (Swedish) is a suburb of Espoo, located between Tapiola and Kauniainen, with a population of 8,468 (2023), of which 555 speak Swedish as a first language (2023). Most of Mankkaa falls under the postal code 02180, with 02630 being the code of the areas situated near the Helsinki-Turku freeway in the north. The area under postal code 02180 has one of the highest wage incomes in whole of Finland.
Thierry Gueorgiou is a French orienteer who holds the record for gold medals won at the World Orienteering Championships for a male athlete, with 14 gold medals between 2003 and 2017. Gueorgiou has won more than 20 gold medals in international competitions, including the World Orienteering Championships (WOC) middle distance event a record eight times: 2003–2005, 2007–2009, 2011 and 2017.
Laajalahti is a district of Espoo, a city in Finland. It belongs to the area of Suur-Tapiola together with Westend, Tapiola, Pohjois-Tapiola, Otaniemi, Niittykumpu, Mankkaa, and Haukilahti. It gets its name from the bay on which it is located. Laajalahti belongs to three sectors; Laajaranta, Lupauksenvuori, and Ruukinranta.
Espoonlahti (Finnish) or Esboviken (Swedish) is one of the five major urban areas of Espoo, a city in Finland. It lies along the south-western coast of Espoo, bounded to the west by the bay of the same name, to the south by the shores of the Gulf of Finland, to the west by the Finnoo (Finnå) valley, to the east of the municipal border of Kirkkonummi, and to the north by the forests of Espoo central forest area. Pasi Ikonen was a Finnish orienteering competitor, winner of the middle distance at the 2001 World Orienteering Championships. His other achievements include two individual silver medals at the world championships, and medals at the World Games and the European championships.
Minna Kauppi is a Finnish orienteer, who was born in Asikkala and lives in Lahti. Kauppi is a nine-time World Champion, including five golds from relays. Kauppi is the most successful Finnish orienteer of all time when ranked by number of gold medals at the World Orienteering Championships. Kauppi was named Finnish Sports Personality of the Year in 2010.
Marika Mikkola is a Finnish orienteering competitor and World champion. She won a gold medal at the 2001 World Orienteering Championships in Tampere and a silver medal in Västerås 2004 with the Finnish relay team. She also received an individual silver medal in 2001 and bronze medal in 2004 in the long distance event. Marika's clubs have been Reima-34, Espoon Suunta, Angelniemen Ankkuri, Bækkelagets SK, Espoon Suunta and Kalevan Rasti.
FC Espoo is a Finnish football club. It was based in the city of Espoo, Finland. Founded in 1989, the first team plays in the Kolmonen, the fourth tier of the Finnish football pyramid. The club is amateur and focuses mainly on junior football sides for youth development.
