Essen-Werden is a railway station in the city of Essen in western Germany. It serves the southern city borough Werden and is situated on the bank of the river Ruhr at the junction of the Ruhr Valley Railway and the line to Essen.

The station was opened in 1872 as part of the Düsseldorf-Werden-Kupferdreh line of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn. In 1877, a line to Essen opened. [4] Passenger services on the line to Kupferdreh closed on 29 May 1965. [6]

The station today sees regular service by Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn trains on the S6 line since 1974. Trains currently run in 20-minute intervals. [7]

In 1890, it was opened directly next to Hügel Park, the estate of the industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp and the location of the Villa Hügel, which had been built twenty years earlier. The station is located on the Essen-Werden–Essen railway, which connects the Ruhr Valley Railway to Essen Hauptbahnhof.

The Ruhr Valley Railway is a partly abandoned railway line in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, running from Düsseldorf-Rath via Old Kupferdreh station, Bochum-Dahlhausen, Witten-Herbede, Hagen-Vorhalle and Schwerte to Warburg. It was built between 1872 and 1876 by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company, one of the three major private railway companies in the Ruhr area. The railway tracks that were built along the Ruhr river had a relatively uniform grade that was suitable for railway operations at the time.

Essen-Kupferdreh station is located in the district of Kupferdreh of the city of Essen in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is on the Wuppertal-Vohwinkel–Essen-Überruhr line and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. It was built between 1969 and 1979, replacing the nearby Old Kupferdreh station. In the 2010–12 period, the track near the station was elevated and the side platforms were replaced by an island platform.
