The Estonian Newspaper Association (Estonian : Eesti Ajalehtede Liit) is an umbrella organisation representing common interests of newspapers published in Estonia. As of July 28, 2007, it represents 41 publications. [1]

The association was established in 1990 and has been a member of World Association of Newspapers since 1991.

Estonian Press Council

In 2002 the association established the Estonian Press Council (Avaliku Sõna Nõukogu), with the purpose of the supervision of the Estonian press. It is a self-regulating body of the Estonian press. It provides a possibility to settle readers' complaints out of court, free of charge. [2]

Press Friend Award

Since 1994, the association has given out a yearly Press Friend award [3] and an accompanying Press Enemy award. The Press Friend award comes with a stylised sculpture of a megaphone; there is no accompanying sculpture for the Press Enemy award.

The Estonian Footballer of the Year is an annual award given to the best performing Estonian footballer of the respective year. The award has been presented since 1992. From 1992 to 1994, the winner was chosen by Päevaleht, from 1995 to 2000 by Eesti Päevaleht, and from 2002 to 2003 by Estonian football journalists (EJAK). The Estonian Football Association (EJL) also named their player of the year from 1994 to 2003. Since 2004, the winner is chosen by representatives of the Estonian Football Association and football journalists. Ragnar Klavan has won the award a record seven times. The current holder is Karol Mets.

Janar Talts is a former Estonian professional basketball player who is the sporting director of University of Tartu basketball team. Standing at 2.07 m, he played at the power forward and center positions. He represented the Estonian national basketball team internationally.

The Estonian Athlete of the Year is an annual award presented by the Estonian Olympic Committee to one male and one female sportsperson judged to have delivered the best performance over the course of the year. The winners of the award, which was first conceived in the 1930s and has been presented every year since 1955, are chosen by an aggregated vote from sporting journalists, national sporting federations, and the public at large.

The Estonian Basketball Player of the Year is an annual award given to the best performing Estonian basketball player of the respective season. From 1995 to 2001 the award was decided by a poll of Estonian sports journalists and given by the magazine Sporditäht. Until 1999, only players who played for a domestic club were eligible for the award. In 2001, players who represented the Estonian national team were added to the vote. Since 2004, the award has been presented by the Estonian Basketball Association. The current holder of the award is Siim-Sander Vene.

The 2016 Meistriliiga was the 26th season of the Meistriliiga, the highest division of Estonian football system. The season began on 4 March 2016 and concluded on 5 November 2016.

The KML Best Defender Award is an award for the top-tier professional basketball league in Estonia, the Korvpalli Meistriliiga.

The KML Best Young Player Award is an award for the top-tier professional basketball league in Estonia, the Korvpalli Meistriliiga.

The KML Coach of the Year is an award for the top-tier professional basketball league in Estonia, the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML).

KML All-Star Five is an award for the top-tier professional basketball league in Estonia, the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). It is the yearly selection of the league's top five basketball players, by position.

The Estonian Young Footballer of the Year is an annual award given to the best Estonian young footballer since 2008.

The Estonian Female Young Footballer of the Year is an annual award given to the best Estonian female young footballer.

The Estonian Female Footballer of the Year is an annual award given to the best Estonian women's association footballer.

The 2017 Meistriliiga was the 27th season of the Meistriliiga, the top Estonian league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1992. The season began on 3 March 2017 and concluded on 4 November 2017. FCI Tallinn began the season as defending champions of the 2016 season.

The Estonian Coach of the Year is chosen annually each December, since 1988. The winner is voted by a group of sports journalists, public, and sports associations. Skiing coach Mati Alaver has won the award a record five times.

The 2019 Meistriliiga was the 29th season of the Meistriliiga, the top Estonian league for association football clubs. The season began on 8 March 2019 and concluded on 9 November 2019. Nõmme Kalju were the defending champions. Flora won their 12th Meistriliiga title.

Ivar Tallo is an Estonian political scientist and politician. He was a member of IX Riigikogu.
