Skarmas was born in Indio, California and attended high school at Desert Chapel Christian. He was captain of both teams. [1] As a senior, Skarmas totaled 2,184 yards and 29 touchdowns. As an outside linebacker, he totaled 141 tackles, a feat that made him a standout from his eight-man squad. His defensive performance earned him the CIF Southern Section Eight-Man Division II Defensive MVP award. He received three scholarship offers in 2016 before announcing his intent to enroll at Dixie State University as a preferred walk-on. [2]
Despite his expressed interest to play college football at Dixie State, Skarmas enrolled at the College of the Desert. He played as a defensive back for the Roadrunners during the 2016–2017 season and made three tackles in nine games played. [3]
