Etilda Gjonaj (born May 6,1981) is an Albanian politician,lawyer,and professor. She served as Minister of Justice of Albania.
Etilda Gjonaj was born Etilda Saliu in Pukë,Albania on 6 May 1981. [1] In 2003,Gjonaj graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Tirana. [1] She was admitted as an attorney the next year. [2] In 2011,Gjonaj received a Master's degree in criminal science from the University of Tirana. [1]
Gjonaj also lectured at the University of Tirana prior to taking public office. [1]
On 10 April 2014,the Parliament of Albania appointed Gjonaj to a three-year term as one of the three commissioners of the Office of the People's Advocate. [2] She served in this role until April 2017,alongside Arben Shkembi and Ermir Kapedani. [2] [3]
On 22 May 2017,Gjonaj was appointed the Deputy Minister of Justice. [1]
In August 2017,Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that he was appointing Gjonaj as the minister of justice. [4]
Gjonaj is a member of the Socialist Party. [5]
Gjonaj is married to Irvelin Gjonaj. They have one son. [1]

The 2011 Albanian opposition demonstrations were a series of anti-government protests in cities around Albania following 18 months of political conflict over alleged electoral fraud by the opposition. A video surfaced which portrayed the deputy prime minister arranging a corrupt deal with the minister of economy. A demonstration was called by parliamentary opposition parties,which include the Socialist Party and the Unity for Human Rights Party. These were called on 21 January in order to protest the alleged corruption of the Albanian government as well as widespread unemployment and poverty in the country.
