Eugen Sturza (born 15 December 1984) is a Moldovan politician. He was the Minister of Defence of Moldova under President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Pavel Filip. [1] Sturza at the time of his appointment was the youngest member of the Filip Cabinet,at 33 years old.
In 2004,Sturza began his studies at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova in Chisinau. [2] After graduating,he became an advisor to Prime Minister Vlad Filat until 2013,when he became the Chief of Prime Minister's Office,a position he kept until 2015. That same year,he became a moderator within the Institute for European Policies and Reforms.
On 17 October 2017,the Constitutional Court of Moldova suspended President Igor Dodon for refusing to appoint Sturza as advised by the Prime-Minister (the Constitutional Court concluded at the time that the Prime-Minister´s advice was binding for the President and refusal to approve the appointment violated the Constitution). [3] On 24 October 2017 Sturza was sworn in as Minister of Defense against the wishes of President Dodon. [4] [5] [6] In the first 6 months in this position,Sturza has made it a goal to strengthen the Armed Forces where his predecessors did not. [7]
He was removed from his post as a result of the 2019 Moldovan constitutional crisis. In his farewell address,Sturza said that he hopes that under his leadership,the ministry "laid the foundation of an army of the future,and the Western model of development will remain the only accepted model for anyone to take over the leadership of the institution." [8]
He is married and has two children. He is fluent in English as well as Russian. [9]
Igor Dodon is a Moldovan politician who previously served as the President of Moldova from 23 December 2016 to 24 December 2020. He currently serves as the leader of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova. He served as Minister of Economy and Trade in the governments of Vasile Tarlev and Zinaida Greceanîi from September 2006 to September 2009 and was a member of the Parliament of Moldova from 2009 to 2016. He lost his bid for re-election in 2020 to Maia Sandu,whom he had defeated four years earlier in the 2016 Moldovan presidential election.

Maia Sandu is a Moldovan politician who has been the President of Moldova since 24 December 2020. She is the founder and former leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and former Prime Minister of Moldova from 8 June 2019 until 14 November 2019,when the government collapsed after a vote of no-confidence. Sandu was Minister of Education from 2012 to 2015 and member of the Parliament of Moldova from 2014 to 2015,and again in 2019.

The Presidential Band of the Republic of Moldova is an artist collective and the senior most military band of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova,specifically serving the President of Moldova in his/her position as commander in chief. The band plays at welcome ceremonies of foreign officials on state visits,ceremonies of national importance,military parades,the accreditation ceremonies for ambassadors to Moldova,and various community events. The current commander of the band is Lieutenant Colonel Leonid Vozniuc,who is the director of all the military bands in the armed forces. The Sandu Cabinet was a six-month Cabinet of Moldova in later 2019,led by Maia Sandu of the Party of Action and Solidarity.
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Moldova on 11 July 2021. Following the resignation of Ion Chicu,the position of Prime Minister became vacant,with the Parliament being obligated to form a new government within three months. After the expiration of the constitutionally mandated period and two failed attempts to win parliamentary approval for the proposed cabinets,the Constitutional Court ruled on 15 April that the circumstances justifying a dissolution of the parliament were met. President Maia Sandu signed the decree dissolving the Parliament on 28 April and snap parliamentary elections were called on.

It is celebrated on 24 August and is also associated with the former Liberation from Fascist Occupation Day and the present day European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism in Romania. It is used to commemorate Moldova's role in the defeat of from Nazi Germany in 1945. It is also recognized by the internationally unrecognized Transnistria.
