Evan "The Rocket" Dollard [1] (born April 7, 1982) is an American athlete and rock climber. [2] [3] He came to prominence during Season 1 of the rebooted American Gladiators, as the season 1 men's champion. [2] He earned his nickname "Rocket" from his speed in Gladiator competition, taking it as his gladiator name, becoming a Gladiator for season 2 of the rebooted American Gladiators. [4] He has since appeared prominently in the Ninja Warrior franchise; in American Ninja Warrior (and hence US TV specials for Sasuke called "Ninja Warrior") and the standalone American Ninja Warrior, also using his nickname. Dollard also hosts his own web series, "Ninja Quickies". [5] [6] He has also competed in local editions of Ninja Warrior. [7]

Biography

Before coming to fame, Dollard worked as a youth instructor, [3] and taught rock climbing. [2] [3]

Dollard was a childhood fan of the original American Gladiators (AG). He discovered that AG had been rebooted through his roommate finding the audition request on the internet. [8] After discovering that AG was making a comeback, decided to try out for season 1 of the new show. He eventually became season 1 men's champion, and went on to be optioned for being a Gladiator for season 2, as "Rocket". Dollard discovered that AG had been canceled when an AG coworker mentioned that set equipment had been sold off, he had not been contacted by producers about the fate of season 3. [9]

Dollard found out about American Ninja Warrior (ANW) through co-worker computer programmers, who showed him YouTube videos of SASUKE and American Ninja Challenge, and suggested he try. Dollard contacted G4 TV to apply for a spot on American Ninja Warrior, and submitted a tape of his performances on American Gladiators as his audition tape. He was selected, and on ANW season 2, made it through and obtained a trip to Japan to Mount Midoriyama. [9]

Dollard was part of ANW for G4 in season 5 by being host of Well Trained Warrior web series web extras to ANW. The series interviewed ANW competitors at CrossFit Beach, and showed their training. [10]

Dollard became involved in A. Smith & Co.'s mid-2010s attempt to restart AG, which was not picked up by any network. With that show's failure to launch, Dollard started "Ninja Quickies" on YouTube. [9] Ninja Quickies is and expansion on the premise of earlier series "Well Trained Warrior", interviewing ANW competitors on their own training grounds. [10]

With Dollard's experiences on ANW and AG, he was asked to host BattleFrog for 2015, and be an analyst, analyzing the obstacles and strategies to overcome them. [10]

In 2017, Dollard joined the WolfPack Ninja Tour, a touring exhibition show of NinjaWarrior/Sasuke-style obstacles. [11]

In the 2020s, Dollard has been an iFit fitness trainer for NordicTrack. [12]

The American Ninja Challenge was a nationwide competition sponsored by G4 TV to send a number of American citizens to Japan to compete in the TBS hit TV show Sasuke. The American Ninja Challenge has been held since Sasuke 19 and currently merged into the TV series American Ninja Warrior that premiered on December 12, 2009 and succeeded the American Ninja Challenge.

The eighth season of the obstacle course reality competition series American Ninja Warrior premiered on June 1, 2016, on NBC. Hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila returned for their respective seventh and fourth seasons, alongside sideline reporter Kristine Leahy who returned for her second season. The grand prize stayed even with season 7, at $1,000,000. In addition, 28 new obstacles were created for this season, and there were 40% more female applicants over last season.

The second season of American Ninja Warrior began on December 8, 2010, in Venice Beach, California where 300 competitors took on the course. The 15 semi-finalists moved on to the "Ninja Warrior Boot Camp" in the remote California mountains, where they competed in a series of team challenges. Then, the final moved on to compete in the season finale of American Ninja Warrior 2 as a part of Sasuke 26 at Mount Midoriyama in Japan. The series concluded on January 2, 2011, same as Sasuke 26 was aired in Japan. This season was hosted by Matt Iseman and Jimmy Smith, with G4's Alison Haislip as a sideline reporter.

The tenth season of the reality sports competition series American Ninja Warrior premiered on May 30, 2018 on NBC. Hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila returned for their ninth and sixth seasons, respectively, alongside sideline reporter Kristine Leahy who returns for her fourth. Prior to the season premiere, NBC aired two special episodes. On May 17, 2018, a two-hour All-Stars special aired, while on May 24, 2018, the second annual Celebrity Ninja Warrior for Red Nose Day featured celebrities raising money for charity.

American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. The World is a television special aired approximately once a year on NBC. It features an American Ninja Warrior team from the United States competing against teams from other countries around the world, including Japan, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia, for bragging rights and the American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. The World trophy. The competitors race on the same Mount Midoriyama course used in the National Finals on the Las Vegas Strip.

<i>American Ninja Warrior Junior</i> American TV series or program

American Ninja Warrior Junior is an American sports competition reality show on Universal Kids that premiered in 2018. It is the children's edition of American Ninja Warrior and American Ninja Warrior: Ninja vs. Ninja, which themselves are based on the Japanese game show Sasuke. As with the rest of the franchise, the series is produced by A. Smith & Co. In May 2021, it was announced that the third season would be moving to Peacock.

The twelfth season of the reality/sports competition series American Ninja Warrior premiered on September 7, 2020 and wrapped up on November 6, 2020 on NBC. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, all eight episodes were filmed in St. Louis, Missouri from June 29 to July 25, 2020, behind closed doors in the America's Center convention center and stadium. Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila returned for their respective eleventh and eighth seasons, while Zuri Hall returned for her second season on the show.
