Evergreen Theatre

Evergreen Theatre is a touring educational, environmental, and science-based theatre company for young audiences in Alberta, Canada. It is a non-profit charitable organization.

Contents

Evergreen produces musical theatre touring shows and artist-in-residency programs for schools, as well as workshops, presentations, and activities for conferences and organizations nationwide. [1] Its environmental science-themed shows are performed at elementary schools, with opportunities for students to be in the shows. [2]

History

In 1991, Evergreen Theatre was founded by Scott Mair, Tara Ryan, Elinor Holt, Gerald Matthews, Don Enright, and Monique Keiran. [3]

Sean Fraser joined Evergreen Theatre as the president in 2004. He has been the company's executive director since 2007. [4] [3]

Facility

From 2007 to 2015, Evergreen Theatre operated the Evergreen Community Studios in Calgary's Currie Barracks. In 2015, it moved to the Evergreen Community SPACES in Mayland Heights. Evergreen both owns and operates this facility. [5] [4] [6] [7]

Community Affiliates

Evergreen is a member of The Society of Educational Resource Groups, Alberta's Promise, Calgary Professional Arts Alliance, REAP Sustainable Business Association, and Theatre Alberta.[ citation needed ]

Funding

Funding for Evergreen is raised primarily through program revenues and corporate partnership, however this organization also receives funding through the Province of Alberta through the Alberta Lottery Fund and Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA). [8]

Caitlynne Medrek is an international, award winning Canadian actress. She spent the first half of her career living and working in professional theatre around Canada, but has since set her sights on creating a cinematic career by performing in Film and Television. A Canadian College of Performing Arts alumna, Medrek is a true triple threat. She is best known for her roles in Heartland as Ms. Clarissa, Fargo, Season 3 as Grace Stussy, and Claire in the award-winning series, Out with Dad. She has had an incredible voice acting career with notable roles like Dawn in Total Drama: Revenge of the Island, Mikoto in My-HiME, Miu Matsuoka in Strawberry Marshmallow, and Pan in Dragon Ball GT. Martha Ruth Cohen, CM, LLD was a Canadian community activist and philanthropist. She spearheaded a variety of major civic projects, including construction of the $45 million Calgary Centre for the Performing Arts. As chairwoman of the board of directors at Mount Royal College, she oversaw the construction of a new campus and was the first woman to head a higher educational institution in Alberta. She was a member of the Order of Canada and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Calgary in 1982.

Shaun Johnston is a Canadian movie and theater actor best known for his role as Jack Bartlett on the CBC drama Heartland, which debuted in October 2007. He co-founded the Shadow Theatre in Edmonton and made his first professional forays in Alberta's thriving theatre scene.
