Ezio Vaccari (born 1962) is an Italian historian of science, specializing in the history of the Earth sciences in the 18th and 19th centuries. He is a professor of History of Science and Technology at the University of Insubria (Varese, Italy). Since 2020, he has served as President of the International Commission on the History of Geological Sciences (INHIGEO) under the IUGS. [1] [2]

Biography

Vaccari was born in Verona in 1962. [3]

He graduated from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Florence in 1989.

In 1996, he earned his PhD in History of Science from the University of Bari.

Between 1990 and 1998, he conducted research and held fellowships at several European institutions, including the University of Rostock and the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology (Germany); Trinity College Dublin (Ireland); the Geological Survey of Austria, Vienna; and the CNRS in Paris (France). Since 2002, he has taught at the University of Insubria, where he holds the position of Full Professor (Ordinario).

He is the director of the Research Centre for the History of Mining, Material Culture and Earth Sciences (Centro di Ricerca sulla Storia della Montagna, della Cultura Materiale e delle Scienze della Terra).

Since 2020, he has been President of the International Commission on the History of Geological Sciences (INHIGEO).
