Fużūlī was the pen name of the Azerbaijani, of the Bayat tribes of Oghuz, poet, writer and thinker Muhammad bin Suleyman. Often considered one of the greatest contributors to the Dîvân tradition of Azerbaijani literature, Fuzûlî in fact wrote his collected poems (dîvân) in three different languages: in his native Azerbaijani, Arabic and Farsi. He was well-versed in both the Ottoman and Chagatai Turkic literary traditions as well as mathematics and astronomy.

Fuzuli or Fizuli is a rayon of Azerbaijan. It was named after the Azerbaijani poet Fuzûlî. Its capital is the town of Füzuli. The western half, including the capital, has been controlled by the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh ever since as part of its Hadrut Province, since the Nagorno-Karabakh War. Horadiz is temporarily center of Fuzuli Rayon due to Fuzuli's occupation by Armenian forces since 23 August 1993.

Füzuli, Armenian: Varanda, is a city and the capital of the Füzuli rayon of Azerbaijan. On 23 August 1993, the city fell to Armenian forces during the Nagorno-Karabakh war and since then is administered as part of Hadrut Region of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh ever since. Due to the ongoing war, it is currently an uninhabited ghost town.
