Brief overview

Until 2000, the club was known as Viktor Zaporizhzhia. The club represents the Classic Private University that before 2007 was called the Humanitarian University of Zaporizhzhia State and Municipal Administration (HU ZIDMU).

Initially, the club carried the name of the university's rector Viktor Oharenko who became the club's main sponsor, hence Viktor Zaporizhzhia. [1] The club was organized by a coach from Belarus Oleksandr Tomakh. [1] The new team was formed out of players of Metalurh Zaporizhzhia academy. [1] Viktor played its games at the older "Lokomotyv" stadium. [1] Its first head coach of Vladyslav Ishchenko. [1] After being admitted to the Transitional League in 1993, Ishchenko was replaced by Russian head coach Boris Stukalov. [1] Its first game in the league the club played on 21 August 1993 in Borodianka. [1]

In 1994 the main club of the region FC Metalurh Zaporizhzhia experienced crisis and to save situation Oleksandr Tomakh joined Metalurh at first as part of merger. [1] It was planned to rename the club as FC Metalurh-Viktor Zaporizhzhia, but the merger fell through. [1]

The 2015–16 Ukrainian Premier League season is the 25th top-level football competitions since the fall of the Soviet Union and the eighth since the establishment of the Ukrainian Premier League. Because of sponsorship the league changed its title for 2015–16 season to League Parimatch. The competition commenced on 17 July when Metalurh Zaporizhzhia hosted Zorya Luhansk in Zaporizhzhia. The first sixteen rounds were played before the winter break which began 6 December 2015; the competition resumed on 5 March 2016. The season concluded on 15 May 2016. Dynamo Kyiv are the defending champions. With the continuation of the Ukrainian crisis in the oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk, the league remained at 14 teams after being cut from 16 in the 2013–14 season.

The 2018–19 Ukrainian Second League was the 28th since its establishment. The competition started on 21 July 2018 with the match between Myr and FC Nikopol.
