Walter Wallace Hodge Muñoz is a Puerto Rican-U.S. Virgin Islander professional basketball player for Capitanes de Arecibo of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). Internationally, Hodge plays with the senior U.S. Virgin Islands national basketball team, due to eligibility arising from his Virgin Islander grandfather. Emma Meesseman is a Belgian professional basketball player for Fenerbahçe of the EuroLeague Women. She has also played for the Belgian national team and several European professional teams. She was named the 2011 FIBA Europe Young Women's Player of the Year and the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP. Meesseman studied physical education at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The 2022 FIBA AmeriCup was the 19th edition of the FIBA AmeriCup, the main tournament for senior men's basketball national teams of the FIBA Americas. The tournament was played in Recife, Brazil, as Brasília was dropped as a second host city months before the tournament. It was originally scheduled to take place in 2021, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic to 2 to 11 September 2022.
