The FIU Panthers women's basketball team represents Florida International University in women's basketball. The school competes in Conference USA in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Panthers play home basketball games at Ocean Bank Convocation Center in Westchester, Florida.^[2]

History

They have won seven tournaments, 6 while in the Trans America Athletic Conference, and one while they played in the Sun Belt Conference. They also appeared in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 1983, 1986, and 1987. As of the end of the 2015–16 season, the Panthers have an all-time record of 692–466 since beginning play in 1975. All wins from the 2003–04 season (11) were vacated due to NCAA sanctions.^[3]^[4]^[5]

They were led by fourth-year head coach Ron Turner until he was fired on September 25, 2016. Defensive coordinator Ron Cooper was promoted to interim head coach for the remainder of the season. They finished the season 4–8, 4–4 in C-USA play to finish in fourth place the East Division.

Cindy Russo served as the women's basketball head coach at Florida International and Lamar. Retiring in January 2015, her career spanned 39 years with 38 of those years as a head coach. She had several accomplishments over her career. She guided the FIU Panthers to 20 consecutive winning seasons. Her teams also achieved 20 win seasons 18 times. Her teams participated in six NCAA Division I women's basketball tournaments, seven WNIT tournaments, and two NCAA Division II Tournaments.

The 2018–19 FIU Panthers women's basketball team represented Florida International University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Panthers, led by third year head coach Tiara Malcom, played their home games at FIU Arena, and were members of Conference USA. They finished the season 5–24, 2–14 in Conference USA play to finish in a 3 way tie for twelfth place. Due to a tie breaker loss to Florida Atlantic and UTSA, they failed to qualify for the Conference USA women's tournament.
