Florida International University (FIU) is a public research university with its main campus in University Park, Florida. Founded in 1965, it has quickly grown to become the largest university in South Florida, the second-largest in Florida, and the fourth-largest in the United States by enrollment. A constituent part of the State University System of Florida, FIU has been designated as having "Emerging Preeminence".
Paul Hilton "Butch" Davis Jr. is an American football coach. He was most recently the head football coach at Florida International University. After graduating from the University of Arkansas, he became an assistant college football coach at Oklahoma State University and the University of Miami before becoming the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He was head coach of the University of Miami's Hurricanes football team from 1995 to 2000 and the NFL's Cleveland Browns from 2001 to 2004. Davis served as the head coach of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) Tar Heels football team from 2007 until the summer of 2011, when a series of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) investigations resulted in his dismissal. Inge Nissen is a Danish basketball player and coach. The 2015–16 FIU Panthers women's basketball team represents Florida International University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Panthers, led by first year head coach Marlin Chinn, play their home games at FIU Arena, and were members of Conference USA. They finished the season 5–26, 5–16 in C-USA play to finish in last place. They advanced to the second round of the C-USA Women's Tournament to Marshall.
Cindy Russo served as the women's basketball head coach at Florida International and Lamar. Retiring in January 2015, her career spanned 39 years with 38 of those years as a head coach. She had several accomplishments over her career. She guided the FIU Panthers to 20 consecutive winning seasons. Her teams also achieved 20 win seasons 18 times. Her teams participated in six NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournaments, seven WNIT tournaments, and two NCAA Division II Tournaments.
Tiara Patryce Malcom is an American college basketball coach, who was head women's basketball coach at FIU from 2016 to 2020.
The 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball corruption scandal is an ongoing corruption scandal, initially involving sportswear manufacturer Adidas as well as several college basketball programs associated with the brand but now involving many programs not affiliated with Adidas.
The 2017–18 FIU Panthers men's basketball team represented Florida International University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Panthers, led by fifth-year head coach Anthony Evans, played their home games at FIU Arena in Miami, Florida as members of Conference USA. They finished the season 14–18, 8–10 in C-USA play to finish in a tie for seventh place. They lost in the first round of the C-USA Tournament to Southern Miss.
