The Drava or Drave, historically known as the Dravis or Dravus, is a river in southern Central Europe. With a length of 710km, or 724km, if the length of its Sextner Bach source is added, it is the fifth or sixth longest tributary of the Danube, after the Tisza, Sava, Prut, Mureș and likely Siret. The Drava drains an area of about 40,154 square kilometers. Its mean annual discharge is seasonally 500m³/s to 670m³/s. Its source is near the market town of Innichen, in the Puster Valley of South Tyrol, Italy. The river flows eastwards through East Tyrol and Carinthia in Austria into the Styria region of Slovenia. It then turns southeast, passing through northern Croatia and, after merging with its main tributary the Mur, forms most of the border between Croatia and Hungary, before it joins the Danube near Osijek, in Croatia.

Run-of-river hydroelectricity (ROR) or run-of-the-river hydroelectricity is a type of hydroelectric generation plant whereby little or no water storage is provided. Run-of-the-river power plants may have no water storage at all or a limited amount of storage, in which case the storage reservoir is referred to as pondage. A plant without pondage is subject to seasonal river flows, so the plant will operate as an intermittent energy source. Conventional hydro uses reservoirs, which regulate water for flood control, dispatchable electrical power, and the provision of fresh water for agriculture.
Holding Slovenske elektrarne (HSE) is a state-owned power generation company in Slovenia. It is the largest company in Slovenia and was established by a government decision on 26 July 2001. The company consists of hydroelectric plants based on the Drava, Sava, and Soča rivers and coal-fired power plants in Brestanica, Šoštanj, and Velenje.

The Boguchany Dam is a large hydroelectric dam on the Angara River in Kodinsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. It has an installed capacity of 2,997 MW. Construction of the power plant was completed when a ninth and final generator was brought online in January 2015.
The Drava Statistical Region is a statistical region in Slovenia. The largest city in the region is Maribor. The region's name comes from the Drava River and includes land on both banks along its course through Slovenia as well as the Pohorje mountains in the northeast of the region. The Drava is used for the production of hydroelectricity and the fertile land around it is used for agriculture. The share of job vacancies in all available jobs is among the highest in Slovenia and the region has a positive net migration rate but a very high natural decrease, which means an overall decrease in the population.

Trebinje I Hydroelectric Power Station or Trebinje-1 Hydroelectric Power Station is hydroelectric power plant (HPP) on the Trebišnjica River near Gornje Grančarevo in the municipality of Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Trebinje-1 HPP is accumulation with dam toe powerhouse type of facility with a large Grančarevo arch dam. At the height of 123 m (404 ft), Grančarevo dam is the tallest dam in the country. Its reservoir, Bileća Lake, is the largest by volume in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. The dam provides for flood control and hydroelectric power generation at Trebinje-1 HPP. The dam was completed in 1967 and its 180 MW power station, A smaller 8 MW power station, Treblinje-2, was completed downstream in 1979.
