Falahill is a village in the Scottish Borders, in the Moorfoot Hills, at NT387563 , in the Parish of Heriot, and close to the border with Midlothian. [1] Nearby are Gilston, the Heriot Water, Oxton, Scottish Borders, Soutra Hill, and Torquhan.

The hill serves as the origin for the name of Fala, the presidential dog of Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was named after one of Roosevelt's ancesters. [2]

Fala, a Scottish Terrier, was the dog of United States president Franklin D. Roosevelt. One of the most famous presidential pets, Fala was taken to many places by Roosevelt. Given to the Roosevelts by a cousin, Fala knew how to perform tricks; the dog and his White House antics were mentioned frequently by the media and often referenced by Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor. Fala outlived Roosevelt by seven years and was buried near him.

Heriot is a small village in the Moorfoot Hills southeast of Edinburgh, Scotland, within Eildon. The village comprises some 150 dwellings, spread over a geographical area of around 50 square miles (130 km2), most of which is moorland. Connected to the rest of the world primarily through the A7 road, Heriot had a railway station from 1849 until the branch line closures instigated by Beeching caused the track to be uplifted in the 1960s. The Scottish Parliament voted, in 2006, to reinstate the railway, but without a station at Heriot.

Jedburgh Castle was a castle at Jedburgh in Scotland. It was fought over during the Wars of Scottish Independence, and was demolished by the Scots commanded by Sir James Douglas of Balvenie in 1409. The site of the original castle was used to build the reform prison based on John Howard system, the construction of which started in 1820.

The Lyne Water is a tributary of the River Tweed that rises in the Pentland Hills of southern Scotland at Baddinsgill Reservoir. It runs through West Linton and Romannobridge, passes Flemington and Lyne Station and enters the Tweed west of Peebles. It floods regularly in winter and occasionally in summer. There is free fishing above Flemington Bridge, and below Flemington fishing in the river is administered by the Peebles fishing authority.
