Falu Kuriren (Swedish : The Falu Courier) is a local newspaper published in Falun, Dalarna, Sweden, by Dalarnas Tidningar, a subsidiary of the Bonnier Group.

History and profile

Falu Kuriren was established by Waldemar Skarstedt in 1894. [1] [2] The paper has its headquarters in Falun and its political stance is independent liberal (Swedish : oberoende liberal). [1] It is published in tabloid format. [3] In 2008, it was acquired by Mittmedia, [4] and is fully owned by the company. [5]

Falu Kuriren sold 29,400 copies in 1996. [1]

Dalarnas Tidningar (DT) is a Swedish media company formed in 1987 through the merger of Falu-Kuriren AB and Dalarnes Tidnings & Boktryckeri AB (DTBAB). Prior to the merger, Falu-Kuriren operated the independent liberal newspaper Falu Kuriren and DTBAB owned the apolitical newspapers Borlänge Tidning, Nya Ludvika Tidning, Mora Tidning, and Södra Dalarnes Tidning. The political leanings of the newspapers were maintained after the merger and through to the current day.

Falu Ishockeyförening or Falu IF is an ice hockey club located in the Swedish city of Falun in Dalarna. The club currently plays in the Western group of Hockeyettan, the third tier of the Swedish ice hockey system, and plays their matches in Lugnets Ishall with a capacity for 2500 spectators.

Falu IK Athletics is a part of sport club Falu IK, founded 1901 in Falun, Sweden. At its inception, the club consisted of several teams, including ice hockey and soccer, but today Falu IK includes only skiing and athletics.

IBF Falun is a floorball club based in Falun, Sweden. Both the men's and women's teams play in the Svenska Superligan (SSL). The men's team won their first SSL gold in 2013 and proceeded to win in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2020, 2021 and 2022 as well. During these successful years, IBF Falun men's team also won three straight Champions Cup golds.

Gösta Carl Fredrik Wetterhall was a Swedish Army officer. During World War II, he served in Finland during the Winter War. Back in Sweden as commanding officer of the Army Ranger School in Kiruna, he was responsible for the Swedish military's relationship with the Norwegian resistance and made major contributions to them through active support to the Norwegian bases on the Swedish side in what was called Operation Sepals. After the war, Wetterhall eventually became commanding officer of Falun Defense District and worked as a ski competition administrator.
