Farah Maalim Mohamed (Somali :Faarax Maaliim Maxamed) is a Kenyan politician who served as Lagdera MP from 1992 to 1997,and then from 2007 to 2013. He then moved to Dadaab constituency in 2022. [1] He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya . [2]
Maalim belongs to an ethnic Somali family. [3] He was educated at Maseno School,and he studied for an MA in Development Studies at [./Https://mstcdc.or.tz/ MS-TCDC],and studied law at the University of Nairobi,before enrolling to the Kenya School of Law for the statutory post graduate law course that is a prerequisite to admission to the Kenyan roll of advocates. [4] He is a member of the Wiper Democratic Movement political party in Kenya,and was elected to represent the Lagdera Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in the 10th Kenyan Parliament. [5] He had previously served in the 7th Kenyan Parliament.
In November 2012,Maalim led a group of MPs,which accused Kenyan soldiers of fomenting violence and using undue force during a security operation in Garissa. The legislators threatened to take the matter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) if the perpetrators were not brought to justice. [6] [7] Maalim also suggested that the deployment of the soldiers was unconstitutional and had not received the requisite parliamentary approval, [6] and that the ensuing rampage cost Garissa entrepreneurs over Sh1.5 billion to Sh2billion in missed revenue. [7]
In the 2013 elections,Maalim ran for the Garissa County Senate seat,but was defeated by Yusuf Haji.
In the 2022 elections,Maalim was elected Wiper MP for Dadaab with a landslide win against Abdikheir Abdullahi Dubow who was backed by then the immediate MP Hon. Mohamed Dahir Duale. [8]
Dadaab is a semi-arid town in Garissa County,Kenya. It is the site of a UNHCR base hosting 223,420 registered refugees and asylum seekers in three camps as of 13 May 2019,making it the third-largest such complex in the world. The centre is run by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,and its operations are financed by foreign donors. In 2013,UNHCR,the governments of Kenya and Somalia signed a tripartite agreement facilitating the repatriation of Somali refugees at the complex.

From late 2011 to 2014,Kenya experienced an upsurge in violent terrorist attacks. Kenyan government officials asserted that many of the murders and blasts were carried out by al-Shabaab in retaliation for Operation Linda Nchi,a coordinated military mission between the Somalian military and Kenyan military that began in October 2011,when troops from Kenya crossed the border into the conflict zones of southern Somalia. According to Kenyan security experts,the bulk of the attacks were increasingly carried out by radicalized Kenyan youth who were hired for the purpose. Kenya security officials also indicated that they were part of death squads,which carried out many of the killings under the orders of a government security council. By mid-2014,the cumulative attacks began affecting Kenya's tourism industry,as Western nations issued travel warnings to their citizens.
Kenya–Somalia relations are bilateral relations between Kenya and Somalia.
Ethnic conflicts in Kenya occur frequently,although most are classified as minor skirmishes. A significant increase in the severity of such conflicts between the various ethnic groups inhabiting the country was witnessed after the introduction of multi-party politics in the early 1990s,especially during the 2007–08 Kenyan crisis. Major conflicts have also led to exoduses of ethnic minority communities with roots in other geographical areas.
The Somali–Kenyan conflict has been an issue within Kenya since the colonial period. Problems have ranged from skirmishes between the two communities and have led to terrorist attacks,police harassment,extortion,home invasions,physical violence,and massacres perpetrated against Somalis and Kenyans.

Ekwee David Ethuro is a Kenyan politician. He was elected as the first Speaker of the modern Kenyan Senate on 28 March 2013. From 1998 to 2013 he served as a Member of Parliament representing Turkana Central. He also served as the Assistant Minister for Planning and National Development from 1998 to 2002 under the government of President Daniel arap Moi. He was re-elected as Member of Parliament for Turkana Central in the 2007 general elections and steered the proceedings of the 10th Parliament in the position of acting Speaker of the House whenever the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker were absent.
General Mohamud Haji Mohamed Barrow is a former Kenyan military commander,and was Chief of General Staff of the Kenyan military and Commander Kenya Army.
On 2 April 2015,gunmen stormed the Garissa University College in Garissa,Kenya,killing 148 people,and injuring 79 or more. The militant groups Al-Qaeda and Al-Shabaab,which the gunmen claimed to be from,took responsibility for the attack. The gunmen took over 700 students hostage,freeing Muslims and killing those who identified as Christians. The siege ended the same day,when all four of the attackers were killed. Five men were later arrested in connection with the attack,and a bounty was placed for the arrest of a suspected organizer.
Abbas Abdullahi Sheikh Siraji was a Somali politician who briefly served as the Minister of Public Works and Reconstruction until he was shot dead in Mogadishu in 2017.
