Umar Farouk Aliu Mahama (born 27 April 1981) [1] is a Ghanaian politician who is a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). [2] [3] He is the member of parliament for the Yendi Constituency after winning in the 2020 parliamentary elections. [4]
Mahama had his basic education at Sakasaka Presby Experimental School in Tamale and Achimota schools. He attended secondary school at Prempeh College in Kumasi,Ashanti Region. He then went to Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) where he completed with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing. [5]
Mahama also holds a master's degree in Supply Chain Management from the Coventry University in England,the United Kingdom and he is also certified International Supply Chain Professional which he acquired from the International Purchasing and Supply Chain Management Institute-USA. [5] [6]

In June 2020,Mahama won in the primaries and was declared as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Yendi constituency in the Northern Region ahead of the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections. [7] Mahama was declared winner after polling 244 votes against Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakaria,a Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Loans Centre (MASLOC) and Baba Daney,a Chartered Accountant who got 210 and 139 votes respectively. [8] [9]
In December 2020,he won the parliamentary elections for the Yendi Constituency. He was declared winner after getting 40,624 votes against his closest contender Alhassan Abdul Fatawu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who had 24,755 votes. [10]
Mahama succeeded Mohammed Habib Tijani,Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs under the Akufo-Addo government,who had been member of parliament since recapturing the seat for the New Patriotic Party in the 2012 elections. Mohammed Habib Tijani for unknown reason decided not to seek re-election in the 2020 polls.
In August 2021,Nana Akufo-Addo appointed Farouk as the board chair of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Corporation. [11] Mahama is chairperson of the Muslim Caucus in Parliament. [12] He is also chairperson of Parliament's Assurance Committee. [13]
He is the son of Ghanaian politician and former vice president,the late Aliu Mahama and Hajia Ramatu Mahama. Alhaji Imoro Egala is the maternal grandfather of Farouk [14] [5] [11] Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama has two children,Maltiti Aliu Mahama Jr and Nurudeen Mahama with his wife Ayisha Mahama. [15] His father was Ghana’s first Muslim Vice-President and the first and only ethnic Dagomba to have risen to that political height. [1] He is a muslim. [16]
He won the Northern Excellence awards as the Most Promising Politician and Northern Business Excellence Awards as the Rising Star of the Year. [15]
Politics of Ghana takes place in a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic,whereby the president of Ghana is both head of state and head of government,and of a two party system. The seat of government is at Golden Jubilee House. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and Parliament. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a centre-right and liberal-conservative political party in Ghana. Since the democratisation of Ghana in 1992,it has been one of the two dominant parties in Ghanaian politics,with its leading rival being the centre-left National Democratic Congress (NDC). John Kufuor of the NPP was President of Ghana from 2001 to 2009. At the elections held on 7 December 2004,the party won 129 out of 230 seats. The NPP candidate was Kufuor,who was re-elected as president with 52.75% of the vote. The New Patriotic Party symbol is the African elephant and the New Patriotic Party colours are red,white,and blue.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a Ghanaian politician who has served as the president of Ghana since 2017. He previously served as Attorney General from 2001 to 2003 and as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2003 to 2007 under the Kufuor-led administration.
Alhaji Imoru Egala was a Ghanaian politician and educationist. He held various positions in government in the Gold Coast and after independence of Ghana. He was the foreign minister of Ghana in the First Republic between 1960 and 1961.
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2008. Since no candidate received more than 50% of the votes,a run-off election was held on 28 December 2008 between the two candidates who received the most votes,Nana Akufo-Addo of the governing New Patriotic Party and John Atta Mills of the opposition National Democratic Congress. Mills was certified as the victor by a margin of less than one percent,winning the presidency on his third attempt. It is to date the closest election in Ghanaian history.

General elections were held in Ghana on Friday 7 December 2012 to elect a president and members of Parliament in 275 electoral constituencies. Owing to the breakdown of some biometric verification machines,some voters could not vote,and voting was extended to Saturday 8 December 2012. A run-off was scheduled for 28 December 2012 if no presidential candidate received an absolute majority of 50% plus one vote. Yendi Senior High School(YESS) is a coeducational secondary school in Yendi in the Northern Region of Ghana. The school was established in 1970,first as a middle-boarding school to enable access to basic education for communities in the Eastern Corridor enclave,before being upgraded in September of the same year to the status of a secondary school. For the first academic year,the school had only a total student population of 77,with 70 boys and seven girls. The first headmaster of the school was Cletus Bernard Teviu. He headed the school for nearly a decade,spanning between 1970 and 1979,and one of the hostels in the school has been named in his honour. In the year 2020 when the school celebrated its 50th anniversary,the total student population was 2,724 and the number of teachers was 121. The school operates as a boarding school,but few students attend as day students.
Samuel Abu Jinapor,is a Ghanaian lawyer and a politician. He is a member of the New Patriotic Party and the Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency. In 2017,President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo appointed him as Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations at the Office of the President,at the age of 33,the youngest in the history of Ghana to occupy such a position. He is currently the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah was born in Yendi and is the daughter of Alhaji Shanni Mahama,who was a former MP for Yendi Constituency and a Deputy Minister for Agriculture in the government of former prime minister K. A. Busia. She was appointed Deputy CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) in 2017 and got elevated to the position of substantive Chief Executive in September 2021 after her immediate boss,Stephen Amoah,left to start a career as Parliamentarian for the Nhyiaso Constituency.
