Fear of Men is a Brighton-based band that formed in early 2011 and consists of Jess Weiss (vocals/guitar), Daniel Falvey (guitars/keyboards) and Michael Miles (drums). [1] On 12 February 2013 the band released a reverse chronological compilation of their early singles through Kanine Records called Early Fragments. [1] The band released their debut album Loom in April 2014 through Kanine Records. [2] A limited edition Record Store Day Vinyl was released on 19 April 2014. [3] In 2016 they released their second album Fall Forever. [4]

History

Fear of Men was formed in early 2011 by Jessica Weiss and Daniel Falvey. For her art degree, Weiss had been creating soundtracks for her short films and she met Falvey at one of the exhibitions for her films. [5] Falvey, a guitarist and a fellow art student, liked her recordings and they started working together. Weiss became the lead vocalist and lyricist, [1] while Lin and Anthony joined on bass and drums respectively. [6]

In March 2011, they released a four-track cassette entitled the "Hannah Schygulla Demos" on the Sex is Disgusting label and began to perform live locally. [6] [7] [8] In August the band released the single "Ritual Confession" on the Italian Beach Babes label. [8] [9] It was followed in December of that year by the "Alice Munro Demos" . [10] [11] Over the course of 2012 Lin was replaced by Robyn Edwards on bass, [12] while they were joined by Michael Miles (ex Laish) drums. [13] This created the core of Weiss, Falvey and Miles as a trio that recorded together while bass was added to the live-setting. [1] [14] In June 2012 they release the single "Green Sea" on the Sexbeat label. [15] It was followed by the 7" "Mosaic" October on Too Pure. [16]

In February 2013, Kanine Records released a compilation of previous recordings as Early Fragments. [17] [18] It included the previous three singles and one previously unreleased track "Sheer". The album was described as "moving backwards from their most recent dreamy haze to their first art school experiments" by Consequence of Sound. [19] The band also performed at SXSW, Festival Nrmal and the Indietracks festivals, [14] while Edwards was replaced by Alex Flynn-O'Neill. [20]

They worked on their debut LP Loom, which was released in May 2014. [14] In a review on Pitchfork described it as "wistful dream pop" [21] while it received an aggregated score of 83 on Metacritic. [22] They toured North America and Europe supporting The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. [23]

After the release of Loom, Weiss began composing new songs while experimenting with electronic sounds. [24] The new material was played live during a short tour supporting Lower Dens in October 2015. [25] This experience changed some of the material as the band "wanted to write an album that would make the stage shake, and we had to work out how we could sound stronger and get our ideas across in a more concise way". [24] By the end of December 2015 the recording had been completed. [24]

Style

In relation to recording the second album, Falvey commented that "We got a lot more interested in manipulating sounds and building songs with computers, but we had to learn how to combine that with our live performance". [24]

Throughout the band's career, they have released ten full-length albums and have evolved through a succession of sounds, all in their main style of industrial metal. Over the years, Fear Factory has seen frequent changes in its lineup, with lead vocalist Burton C. Bell being the only consistent member for 31 years until his departure in 2020. Guitarist Dino Cazares is the only original member still in the band. The band went on hold in March 2002 following some internal disputes, but resumed activity a year later without founding member Cazares. Previous bassist Christian Olde Wolbers replaced him as the new guitarist, and bassist Byron Stroud joined the band. In April 2009, a new lineup was announced. <i>Transgression</i> (album) 2005 studio album by Fear Factory

Transgression is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band Fear Factory. It was released on August 22, 2005 through Calvin Records. Guest appearances include Billy Gould, the bassist of Faith No More, and Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton, who co-wrote the song "New Promise". The album was released as an enhanced CD with access to the exclusive Fear Factory website. It was also released as an enhanced DualDisc with the DVD side featuring the whole album in (48,000 kHz), music videos and "The Making of Transgression" video. One could also retrieve another bonus track, entitled "My Grave", by putting the CD into the computer and clicking the 'Music' section at the special website.

Grim Reaper were a British heavy metal band from the new wave of British heavy metal era. The band was formed in 1979 in Droitwich, England, by guitarist Nick Bowcott, and there have been numerous lineup changes over the years, with frontman Steve Grimmett being the longest running member, from 1982 to 1988, then 2006 until his death in 2022. They are best known for several of their 1980s songs, including the respective title tracks from their first three albums: See You in Hell (1983), Fear No Evil (1985) and Rock You to Hell (1987); each of those songs gained notoriety in the 1990s for appearing on Beavis and Butt-Head. Antimatter, a UK dark rock band, is the solo project of longtime founding member Mick Moss. Milk 'N' Cookies was an American power pop band from Long Island, New York. Active during the 1970s, a particularly fertile and creative period in the suburban New York music scene, the band had a loyal following of fans attracted to their unique sound. While many other New York metro-based bands of the time, such as Ramones and Blue Öyster Cult, had edgier personas and harder sounds, Milk 'N' Cookies crafted a more wholesome, pop sensibility. Although they did not receive the radio airplay and attention from mainstream labels given to many of their peers, they were influential in their time and have since achieved considerable cult fame for contributions in the cross-section of pop, glam, and proto-punk.
