Federal Polytechnic Monguno is a public polytechnic located in Monguno, Borno State, northeast Nigeria. [1] [2]

Background

Federal Polytechnic Monguno was established in January 2021 by the Federal Government of Nigeria as the first federal polytechnic in Borno State. The establishment aimed to provide technical and vocational education in the region, addressing the lack of federal institutions in northeastern Nigeria. The polytechnic commenced with eight academic programs across three schools, offering courses in fields such as business administration, accountancy, agricultural science, and computer science. It enrolls about 25,000 students in its combined programs, which include a college of medicine and faculties of agriculture, arts, environmental science, Allied health science, Basic medical science, dentistry, education, engineering, law, management science, pharmacy, science, social science, and veterinary medicine. With the encouragement of the federal government, the university has recently been increasing its research efforts, particularly in the fields of agriculture, medicine and conflict resolution, and expanding the university press. The university is the major higher institution of learning in the north-eastern part of the country.

The Borno State House of Assembly is the legislative arm of the government of Borno State of Nigeria. It is a unicameral legislature with 28 legislators elected from 27 local government areas . Local government areas with considerably larger populations are delineated into two constituencies to give equal representation. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
