Fernando Llanos (Mexico City, 1974) is a Mexican artist, writer, curator, producer, musician, and teacher. He works experimental art mainly with drawing and video and in the recent years he is focused on cinematography.

He is considered an active contemporary Mexican artists and is a reference in Latin American video artistic making. His work has been presented in places such as Guggenheim Museum, the Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal, the World Wide Video Festival in Amsterdam, Transmediale in Berlin, among others. Bio

He was born in the Hospital de México in Colonia Escandón, but lived in Valle Dorado, State of Mexico until he was nine years old. Later she lived in Morelia until he was nineteen years old, and from there he traveled to study graphic arts for a year in Florence. He returned to live in Mexico City, from where she has been producing ever since. He completed a degree in Art, with a video specialization at Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda". From an early age, his artistic work has moved between video creation, mail art, video action, performance and drawing. [5]

In 2000 he made the "Videomails" project, which consisted of sending weekly, every Tuesday, for a year, artistic videos by e-mail to whoever subscribed. [6] Llanos reached 1,600 subscribers, and with these videos he created in collaboration with Arcángel Constantini the first website of a video artist in Latin America: www.fllanos.com

In 2001 he began to develop a mobile video intervention project in specific urban contexts, called Videoman. This project has traveled through Mexico, South America and Europe. Llanos moves his career between curatorial, artistic and teaching activities. He was the founder and director of the Animasivo contemporary animation forum for the Festival de México (2008-2011). He has curated and disseminated more than 15 video curatorships both in Mexico and abroad. He was the curator of the Felipe Ehrenberg retrospective, "Manchuria" which was presented in Mexico and some countries as United States and Brazil. [7]

In 2008, he formed Ediciones Necias publishing house from where he gives an outlet to his concerns about paper where he published Rinostalgias, which was presented at the Museo de Arte Moderno on April 5, 2014. At the same time he has created the musical project Mi Reyna since 2008 with which he has released 2 albums: "La realeza se mama" and "Venga a nosotros Mi Reyna". Since 2010 he made his first documentary feature film "Matria", which was released in 2016. [8]

The Festival Rock y Ruedas de Avándaro was a historic Mexican rock festival held on September 11–12, 1971, on the shores of Lake Avándaro near the Avándaro Golf Club, in a hamlet called Tenantongo, near the town of Valle de Bravo in the central State of Mexico. The festival, organized by brothers Eduardo and Alfonso Lopez Negrete's company Promotora Go, McCann Erickson executive and sports promoter Justino Compean and Telesistema Mexicano producer Luis de Llano Macedo, took place at the height of La Onda and celebrated life, youth, ecology, music, peace and free love, has been compared to the American Woodstock festival for its psychedelic music, counterculture imagery and artwork, and open drug use. A milestone in the history of Mexican rock music, the festival has drawn anywhere from an estimated 100,000 to 500,000 concertgoers.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">José Chávez Morado</span> Mexican artist

José Chávez Morado was a Mexican artist who was associated with the Mexican muralism movement of the 20th century. His generation followed that of Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Although Chávez Morado took classes in California and Mexico, he is considered to be mostly self-taught. He experimented with various materials, and was an early user of Italian mosaic in monumental works. His major works include murals at the Ciudad Universitaria, Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes and Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City as well as frescos at the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, which took twelve years to paint. From the 1940s on, he also worked as a cultural promoter, establishing a number of cultural institutions especially in his home state of Guanajuato including the Museo de Arte Olga Costa - José Chávez Morado, named after himself and his wife, artist Olga Costa.

The Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte is program developed by the former Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, and founded per presidential decree on September 3, 1993. Its goal is the advancement and acceptance of creative activities as an essential part of national identity. It is Mexico's most prestigious arts' grant and a majority of Mexico's most notable architects, fiction writers, poets, essayists, painters, photographers, visual artists, screenwriters, filmmakers, and others who have rendered outstanding services through their work to the creative identity of Mexico, have belonged or currently belong to the program. Every year a new set of 200 creators are selected based on the work produced and contribution to the culture of Mexico. This group of creators receives a special “Artistic Creator” title along with an up to 3-year stimulus that can be used to fund their art endeavors. Creators may reapply once more 3 years after their grant has ended to be awarded again. The 2022 selection included 115 new artists and 85 '2nd time' artists to make up the total of 200 Creadores Artísticos, and all come from 28 different states in Mexico.

Patricia Martín Méndez is a curator and art writer. She has conceptualized and directed three of the most relevant contemporary art foundations in Latin America: Colección Jumex, Fundación Alumnos 47 y Fundación Casa Wabi. In addition to creating the infrastructure to operate these institutions, she also served as chief curator, director of acquisitions; and she developed and promoted their educational, sponsorship and scholarship programs.

Pedro Pablo Preux was a Mexican tapestry maker of French origin, part of an effort to revive the craft as an art form in Europe under Jean Luçart then introducing and promoting the concept in Mexico in the 1960s and 1970s. Although tapestry making as art declined back to handcraft status starting in the 1980s, Preux’s efforts were recognized with membership in the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana and the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte.

ZsONAMACO is an art fair organized since 2003 that takes place annually during February in Mexico City. The fair comprises three events: Zona Maco Arte Contemporáneo showcases contemporary and modern artworks and design. Pepe the Bull is a 1953 Mexican sports drama film directed by Ismael Rodríguez and starring Pedro Infante, Evita Muñoz "Chachita" and Amanda del Llano. It was the last in a trilogy of films featuring Infante and Muñoz playing the father and daughter characters in the 1948 releases Nosotros los Pobres and Ustedes los ricos . A planned fourth film in the series was cancelled when Infante died in 1957. The film was nominated for three Ariel Awards.
