Festival Internacional de Quadrinhos (FIQ) is a comic convention held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, every two years.
In 1997, the third edition of Bienal Internacional de Quadrinhos (International Comics Biennial) was held in Belo Horizonte. This was an annual comic event held previously in Rio de Janeiro in 1991 and 1993 (the 1995 edition didn't happen because it lost the financial support of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, which made the event change to Belo Horizonte). With the definitive cancellation of Bienal after the 1997 edition, the Festival Internacional de Quadrinhos (International Comics Festival) was created in 1999, with the same proposal of the previous event that was to present exhibitions of comic artists from all over the world and give the opportunity for independent Brazilian authors to present their works. The first edition of FIQ was organized by the Belo Horizonte City Hall and had exhibitions, debates, conferences and a comic book fair. The event took place mainly in the Cultural Center of UFMG, besides having exhibitions in libraries over the city. France was the first honored country, counting on special exhibitions, including one in honor of the artist François Boucq. The guest of honor of this edition was the cartoonist Angeli. [2] From then on, the event maintained the biennial periodicity. By 2011, in addition to the guest of honor, there was also a country honored. As of the 2013 edition, the event didn't have honored countries, having instead exhibitions and guests from many different countries. In every edition, a Brazilian artist is chosen as a guest of honor, with exhibitions about his work. This guest, generally, is also responsible for the illustration of the event's poster. [3] [4] In 2017, the event was not held due to lack of money from the city of Belo Horizonte. The edition of that year was transferred to the first semester of 2018, happening to be realized biennial in the even years from then on. [5]
The Festival Internacional de Quadrinhos won Troféu HQ Mix, the main Brazilian comic award, in the "Best Event" category in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. Some of the exhibitions held at FIQ were also awarded in the "Best Exhibition" category: "Angeli, o matador" (2000), "Mozart Couto" (2004), "Batman 70 Anos" (2010), "Criando Quadrinhos - da ideia à página impressa" (2012) e "Ícones dos Quadrinhos" (2014). The festival also received, in 2012, the Jayme Cortez Trophy, destined to reward great contributions to Brazilian comics. [13]

Gustavo Borges is a Brazilian comics writer, author of the webcomics A Entediante Vida de Morte Crens and Edgar. Gustavo also participated in collections such as Memórias do Mauricio and 321 Fast Comics, in addition to publishing graphic novels such as Pétalas (Petals) and Escolhas. In 2015, Gustavo won the Troféu HQ Mix in the category "Best Independent Publication" for the first Edgar strip collection, published independently the previous year. Gustavo has already released Petals in Portugal, Poland and United States, and participated in Amazing World of Gumball 2017 Grab Bag # 1.
Cris Peter is a Brazilian colorist. She works mainly in the American comics market for publishers like DC Comics and Marvel Comics. She was nominated for the Eisner Award for her colors in comic series Casanova. She also did the colors of important Brazilian comics, as Astronauta – Magnetar and Petals. In 2013, she published the theoretical book O Uso das Cores, by Marsupial Editora. She won the Troféu HQ Mix in 2016 and 2017, in the category "Best Colorist".
André Diniz is a Brazilian comics artist. He began working with comics in 1994 with the fanzine Grandes Enigmas da Humanidade, which had a circulation of 5,000 copies.
Omar Viñole is a Portuguese-born Brazilian comics artist, colorist and inker. He and Laudo Ferreira Jr. founded the Banda Desenhada studio in 1996, in which Omar made colors and inks for many comics projects, as Yeshuah, Histórias do Clube da Esquina and Depois da Meia-Noite. He was awarded as "Best inker" in 2003 and 2017. In 2009, he created the webcomic Coelho Nero, a grumpy and critical rabbit, which has two printed collections.
Prêmio Angelo Agostini, sometimes also called Troféu Angelo Agostini, is the most traditional comics award in Brazil. It was created in 1985 by the Associação dos Quadrinhistas e Caricaturistas do Estado de São Paulo (AQC-ESP), which still organizes the event today.
Guia dos Quadrinhos is a Brazilian comic book database created with the objective of cataloging all comics published in Brazil, whether graphic novels, magazines, fanzines or independent publications.

Ana Luiza Koehler, is a Brazilian comics artist and architect. She has a Master's degree in Architecture from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and has worked with illustration since 1993, mainly with publishers of the Franco-Belgian comics market.
André Luiz da Silva Pereira, well known as André Vazzios is a Brazilian colorist, comics artist and architect. Graduated in Architecture from Mackenzie Presbyterian University, he began his career as an illustrator in 1995 at the Abril Jovem publishing house.
Master of National Comics is one of the categories of Prêmio Angelo Agostini, the most traditional Brazilian award dedicated to comics that has been held since 1985 by Associação dos Quadrinhistas e Caricaturistas do Estado de São Paulo (AQC-ESP).
Flavio Colin was a Brazilian comic artist and illustrator, considered one of the most important comic artists in Brazil. He began his career in the 1950s with an adaptation for the comic book radio series As Aventuras do Anjo, influenced by Milton Caniff, but began to gain prominence with the development of his own stylized artist style. In 1987, he was awarded with the Prêmio Angelo Agostini for Master of National Comics, an award that aims to honor artists who have dedicated themselves to Brazilian comics for at least 25 years. He also won the Troféu HQ Mix in 1994 and 1995. Flávio Colin died in Rio de Janeiro on 2002.
