Aust-Agder was one 18 counties (fylker) in Norway up to 1 January 2020, when it was merged with Vest-Agder to form Agder county. In 2002, there were 102,945 inhabitants, which was 2.2% of Norway's population. Its area was 9,212 square kilometres (3,557 sq mi). The county's administrative center was the town of Arendal.

Gjerstad Station is a railway station located in the village of Gjerstad in the municipality of Gjerstad in Agder county, Norway. The station sits along the Sørlandsbanen railway line and it is served by express trains to Kristiansand and Oslo. The small station has a waiting room, parking for up to 25 cars, and bus and taxi connections to the surrounding area.
Norwegian county road 418 (Fv418) is a Norwegian county road in Agder county, Norway. The 20-kilometre (12 mi) long road runs between the junction of Norwegian County Road 416 at the Aspelund farm in Risør municipality and the junction with Norwegian County Road 71 at Egddalen in the village of Gjerstad in Gjerstad municipality. The route from Aspelund to Sundebru used to be part of the European route E18 highway.

The 37.3-kilometre (23.2 mi) long highway runs between the European route E18 highway at Fiane in Tvedestrand municipality and the Norwegian National Road 41 at Myråsen, just south of the village of Åmli in Åmli municipality. The Norwegian County Road 412 splits off from this road to connect to Nelaug and the Nelaug Station. The Norwegian County Road 414 connects to this road at Ubergsmoen and heads north into Vegårshei.

Fiane is about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) west of the town of Tvedestrand and about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) southeast of the village of Nesgrenda. The historic Holt Church lies just south of Fiane, and this was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Holt which existed from 1838 until 1960.

Vestøl is a village in Gjerstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located in the rural uplands of Gjerstad, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) west of the municipal centre of Gjerstad. There is only one road leading to Vestøl, known as the Vestølveien road which starts at Rød and runs past the Åsbø farm area.

This region is bounded by Telemark county to the north, by the Setesdal region to the northwest, and by the Kristiansand Region to the southwest.
Gjerstad is the administrative centre of Gjerstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located at the northern end of the lake Gjerstadvatnet at the northern end of the Norwegian County Road 418. The Sørlandsbanen railway line passes through the village and it stops at the Gjerstad Station. The 0.34-square-kilometre (84-acre) village has a population (2017) of 289 which gives the village a population density of 850 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,200/sq mi). Gjerstad Church is located in the village along with a school and several stores.
Gjerstad Church is a parish church in Gjerstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Gjerstad. It is the main church for the Gjerstad parish which is part of the Aust-Nedenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a "long church" style in 1848 by Lars Listøl using plans by the architect Christian H. Grosch. The church seats about 500 people. In 2004, the church was renovated and restored to its original look.
Søndeled is a village in Risør municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located at the western end of the Søndeledfjorden at the mouth of the river Brøbøvann. The villages of Fiane and Eikeland lie about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) to the north, the village of Akland lies about 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) to the south, and the town of Risør is about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) to the southeast.
