India competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia from 4 to 15 April 2018. It was India's 17th appearance at the Commonwealth Games. With 26 Gold medals and a total of 66 medals, India finished 3rd for the tournament. It was India's best position since the 2010 Commonwealth Games, which they hosted.

Twelve teams qualified for the women's field hockey at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Each of the Continental Champions from five confederations received an automatic berth. Japan as the host nation qualified automatically. In addition, the remaining six nations will be determined by an Olympic qualification event. As hosts Japan also won the Asian Games title, a seventh quota place was added to the Olympic qualification event.
The EuroHockey Championship III 2017 was the seventh edition of the EuroHockey Championship III, the third tier of the European field hockey championships. It was held from 30 July until 5 August 2017 in Sveti Ivan Zelina, Croatia. The tournament also allowed for promotion to the 2019 Men's EuroHockey Championship II, with the champions (Belarus) and runners-up (Italy) being promoted.
The girls' hockey5s event at the 2018 African Youth Games in Algiers was held at the Stade Ferhani from 19 to 26 July 2018. The tournament served as a direct qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games, with the winner, runner-up and third placed team qualifying.

The field hockey tournaments at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to run from 27 July to 9 August at Stade Yves-du-Manoir, a legacy venue of the 1924 Summer Olympics. Twenty-four teams will compete against each other in their respective tournaments.
