The 2017 Asian Winter Games was the 8th edition of the Asian Winter Games. They were hosted in Sapporo and Obihiro in Hokkaido, Japan. These Games were originally scheduled for 2015, however, in the Olympic Council of Asia's general assembly in Singapore on 3 July 2009, the committee decided to move the Games to one year before the Winter Olympics moving forward. The games began on 19 February with the opening ceremony and ended with the closing ceremony on 26 February.
The People's Democratic Republic of Korea competed in the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo and Obihiro, Japan from February 19 to 26. The country is competed in one sport (skating) and two disciplines: figure skating and short track speed skating. The North Korean team will consist of seven athletes.

A total of three events were contested ; normal hill, large hill and team large hill. Host nation Japan dominated the competition winning all three gold medals.

The team consists of 33 athletes, a drop of 19 athletes from the previous edition of the games in 2011. The Kyrgyzstani government plans on spending 8,737,000 Kyrgyzstani som on the team's participation at the games.
