The European Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition in which figure skaters compete for the title of European champion. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. The event is sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU) and is the sport's oldest competition. The first European Championships was held in 1891 in Hamburg, Germany and featured one segment, compulsory figures, with seven competitors, all men from Germany and Austria. It has been, other than five periods, held continuously since 1891, and has been sanctioned by the ISU since 1893. Women were allowed to compete for the first time in 1930, which is also the first time pairs skating was added to the competition. Ice dance was added in 1954. Only eligible skaters from ISU member countries in Europe can compete, and skaters must have reached at least the age of 15 before July 1 preceding the competition. ISU member countries can submit 1-3 skaters to compete in the European Championships.
The 2008 European Figure Skating Championships was a senior international figure skating competition in the 2007–08 season. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The event was held from January 21 through 27, 2008 at Dom Sportova in Zagreb, Croatia.

The 2009 Skate America was the fifth event of six in the 2009–10 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York on 12–15 November. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Skaters earned points toward qualifying for the 2009–10 Grand Prix Final. The compulsory dance was the Golden Waltz.
The 2009 Nebelhorn Trophy was held between September 23 and 26, 2009 in Oberstdorf, Germany. It served as the final Olympic qualifier to the 2010 Winter Olympics. Skaters competed in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dance. The compulsory dance was the Tango Romantica.
The 2010 Canadian Figure Skating Championships were held from January 11 to 17, 2010 in London, Ontario. The event determines the national champions of Canada and was organized by Skate Canada, the nation's figure skating governing body. The senior-level events were held at the John Labatt Centre and the junior- and novice-level events were held at the Western Fair Sports Centre. Skaters competed at the senior, junior, and novice levels in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Although the official International Skating Union terminology for female skaters in the singles category is ladies, Skate Canada uses women officially. The results of this competition were used to pick the Canadian teams to the 2010 Winter Olympics, the 2010 World Championships, the 2010 Four Continents Championships, and the 2010 World Junior Championships, as well as the Canadian national team.

The event was held at the Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario, Canada on March 11–17. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The event also determined the number of entries a country may send to the 2014 World Championships and 2014 Winter Olympics.
Jin Boyang is a Chinese figure skater. He is a two-time World bronze medalist (2016–2017), the 2018 Four Continents champion, a two-time Four Continents silver medalist, the 2017 Asian Winter Games silver medalist, and a five-time Chinese national champion. On the junior level, he is the 2015 World Junior silver medalist and the 2013 JGP Final champion. He is the first Chinese skater to medal in the men's singles event at a World Championships.
Deniss Vasiļjevs is a Latvian figure skater. He is the 2022 European bronze medalist, the 2022 MK John Wilson Trophy silver medalist, a four-time ISU Challenger Series medalist, and a six-time Latvian national champion.
Matteo Rizzo is an Italian figure skater. He is a three-time European Championship medalist, a four-time Grand Prix bronze medalist, the 2019 Winter Universiade champion, a two-time Italian national champion, and a seven-time silver national medalist. He has won several ISU Challenger Series medals, including gold at the 2017 CS Warsaw Cup and 2022 CS Budapest Trophy. Rizzo represented Italy at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.

Adam Siao Him Fa, also known as Adam Siao, is a French figure skater. He is a two-time European champion, a three-time Grand Prix medalist, a five-time ISU Challenger Series medalist, and a two-time French national champion. He represented France at the 2022 Winter Olympics and finished fourteenth overall.
