She defeated four-time MLA Dayanand Mandrekar of the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of 1,727 votes.
Farrel Benito Furtado E Gracias is an Indian politician and teacher who is a former member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, representing the Velim Assembly constituency from 1989 to 1994. Furtado holds the distinction of being the first and only woman legislator to be elected from the Velim constituency.
Roque Santana Joao Fernandes was an Indian politician and freedom fighter. He was a member of the Goa, Daman and Diu Legislative Assembly from 1967 to 1977, representing the Cuncolim Assembly constituency. He is popularly known as the "Father of Goan Democracy" and was responsible for the introduction of democracy by objecting to the Lt. Governor’s nomination through his satyagraha. Vasudev Meng Gaonkar is an Indian politician. He is a former member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, representing the Sanguem Assembly constituency from 2002 to 2012. He is the current serving president of the BJP Kisan Morcha in the Government of Goa.
