First Words was a Canadian hip hop group, consisting of Halifax beatmaker Jorun Bombay, [1] DJ STV [2] and emcees Above and Sean One (Sean McInerney). The group released two albums and an EP, as well as contributing tracks to several hiphop compilations, and was active from 2004 to 2008.

History

In 2004, First Words recorded the song "Down With Putting Raps Down", which was featured on the National Campus and Community Radio Association's Dig Your Roots hip hop compilation album. [3]

Also in 2004, First Words released a 16-track self-titled album [4] of original material, and received a positive review in Exclaim!. [5] The album was Deadbeats Entertainment's first release, kicking off the label's focus on local music. Their pre-release peaked at #1 on the top 30 and hip hop charts of Fredericton, New Brunswick's CHSR.[ citation needed ]

In 2005, Dead-Beats Entertainment released the four-track seven-inch vinyl recording, "Jorun's Way/Sean One's Way". [6] One of the tracks, "No Artificials", was a rap by First Words, and was also included on a compilation album of underground hiphop. [7]

In 2008, First Words released "Anti-Mixtape Movement", [8] available only on vinyl, which featured four tracks from their 2008 album "Cheaters". [9] [10] [11] Cheaters featured guest appearances from various other hiphop artists. [12]

Working separately, in 2007, Sean One released a compilation entitled "Full of It" which charted at #1 in Canada,[ citation needed ] [13] . In 2005, Jorun released a compilation entitled "Jorun's Way" which featured artists Classified, Spesh, and Ghettosocks, among others. [14] Both men continue to regularly issue new releases. Kurupt American rapper from California

Ricardo Emmanuel Brown, better known by his stage name Kurupt, is an American rapper who aided gangsta rap's rise via 1990s verses helping set lasting trends. He is one half of the rap duo tha Dogg Pound, along with Daz. His first solo album arrived in 1998. After feuding, the duo reunited in 2005. Kurupt has been in rap supergroups such as the DPGC.

Temporary Forever is a studio album by American rapper Busdriver. It was released on Temporary Whatever in 2002. It features guest appearances from Radioinactive, Rhetoric, Of Mexican Descent, and Aceyalone. Most of the tracks were recorded and mixed by Daddy Kev, who is a co-executive producer of the album. All scratching on the album was done by D-Styles.

Shadrach Kabango, better known as Shad or Shad K, is a Canadian rapper and broadcaster. He has released six studio albums since 2005. Four of his albums have been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, and he won a Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year in 2011. In 2013, CBC Music named Shad the second-greatest Canadian rapper of all time. Shad hosted Q on CBC Radio One from 2015 to 2016 and hosts the International Emmy and Peabody Award-winning documentary series Hip-Hop Evolution (2016–present) on HBO Canada and Netflix.

Soulja Boy American rapper and record producer

DeAndre Cortez Way, known professionally as Soulja Boy, is an American rapper and record producer. In September 2007, his debut single "Crank That " peaked at number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The single was initially self-published to the internet, and later became a number-one hit in the United States for seven non-consecutive weeks starting in September 2007. On August 17, Way was listed at number 18 on the Forbes list of Hip-Hop Cash Kings of 2010 for earning $7 million that year.

Sean Jordan, better known by his stage name Wordburglar, is a Canadian alternative hip hop artist from Halifax, Nova Scotia, now based in Toronto. His style is best described as upbeat and charismatic with an emphasis on wordplay and humour. He primarily works with his crews Backburner and Props Dept for all aspects of his music creation, including production, cuts, mixing, mastering and guest vocals.

He is of Puerto Rican and French descent.
