Flight is an American television anthology series that originally aired in syndication from 1958 to 1959. The series originally aired for one season, [1] with 38 half-hour episodes produced. It was created with the assistance of the United States Air Force and featured retired General George C. Kenney as the host and opening narrator. [2]

Television in Australia had only been broadcasting since 1956 and Seven was the first commercial station to make drama a priority. It premiered 24 October 1958 and continued until 1959. The series was the first ever Australian television soap opera. It was also the second regular Australian-produced dramatic television series of any kind, with previous locally produced drama consisting of religious series The House on the Corner, and one-off plays largely aired on ABC.

<i>Shell Presents</i> Australian TV series or program

Shell Presents was an early attempt at Australian television drama, being an umbrella title for several different productions. It debuted on 4 April 1959, and aired on ATN-7 and GTV-9, who split production of plays for the series between them. It was an anthology series, each program being a self-contained play for television. The series won a Logie award in 1960 for TV Highlight of 1959. As the title suggests, it was sponsored by Shell. It was described as "a very big deal for the station: major institutional sponsorship from international companies for locally produced drama." It would be followed by The General Motors Hour.

Hal Lashwood's Alabama Jubilee was an Australian television variety series hosted by Hal Lashwood which aired from 1958 to 1961 on ABC Television. It was essentially a minstrel show, with some of the performers appearing in blackface makeup. In 1960, it was retitled Hal Lashwood's Minstrels.

Patrick O'Hagan Sings was an Australian television series starring the Irish tenor of the same name. It was produced by station ATN-7 in November 1958, and began being broadcast in early 1959. Unlike most Australian-produced series of the era, which were live, Patrick O'Hagan Sings was produced directly on film, with a total of 26 episodes made, each of which was designed to fit in a quarter-hour time-slot. Patrick O'Hagan sang songs in the series.

This I Believe is an early Australian television program. Broadcast 5 nights a week on Sydney station ATN-7, it debuted 3 December 1956. It was a 15-minute program in which Eric Baume would provide a commentary on current world events. The program ended around July 1958. According to television listings in the Sydney Morning Herald, the last few episodes of the program aired in an 11-minute time-slot.

Binnie Time is an Australian television series, which aired on Melbourne station GTV-9 from c. 2 October 1958 – c. 3 April 1959. The 15-minute weekly daytime series was originally aired on Thursdays, but the last few episodes were broadcast on Fridays.

Meet Me at Bebarfalds is an Australian television series which aired 1958 to 1959 on Sydney station TCN-9. Hosted by Chuck Faulkner, the series was broadcast from now-defunct retail store Bebarfalds. It aired at 2:00PM. An article in the Sydney Morning Herald, while not mentioning the series by name, described the format as including shoppers being asked topical questions, along with game show segments and a celebrity guest. Like most early Australian series, it aired in a single city only.

The Lucky Show was an Australian television series which aired from 1959 to 1961 on Sydney station TCN-9. Chuck Faulkner was originally announced as host, but was replaced prior to the first broadcast with George Foster. The series was a mix of game show and variety show, and episodes aired in a 60-minute time-slot during daytime. In 1961, The Lucky Show and The Happy Show were merged to create Happy Go Lucky, which should not be confused with Melbourne series The Happy Go Lucky Show (1957-1959). It is not known if any kinescopes or video-tapes still exist of The Lucky Show.

Treason is a 1959 Australian television live drama, which aired on ABC about the 20 July plot during World War Two. Originally broadcast 16 December 1959 in Melbourne, a kinescope ("telerecording") was made of the program and shown in Sydney on 13 January 1960. It was an adaptation of a stage play by Welsh writer Saunders Lewis, which had previously been adapted as an episode of BBC Sunday-Night Theatre.

"The Big Day" is an Australian television film, or rather a live television play, which aired in 1959. The fifth episode of the Shell Presents presentations of standalone television dramas, it originally aired 11 July 1959 on Melbourne station GTV-9, a video-tape was made of the broadcast and shown on Sydney station ATN-7 on 25 July 1959.

Room for Two is an Australian television series which aired on Sydney station ATN-7 during 1958-1959. Hosted by Ray Taylor, it was an hour-long variety program, and a spin-off from Sydney Tonight. An episode aired 11 December 1958 was the first Australian TV episode to feature songs from the hit musical My Fair Lady. Like many ATN series of the era, the series featured the ATN Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Tycho.

Killer in Close-Up was a blanket title covering four live television drama plays produced by the Australian Broadcasting Commission in 1957 and 1958. It could be seen as the first anthology series produced for Australian television.

Melody with Milton is an Australian television series which aired from 1958 to 1960 on Sydney station ATN-7. It was a daytime music series with pianist Milton Saunders. In a 1958 TV schedule, it was preceded on the schedule by Your Home, In a May 1959 schedule, it was preceded by American series The Halls of Ivy. The series aired live, and it is not known if any of the episodes were kinescoped.

Comment is an Australian television series which aired 1958 to 1960 on Sydney station ATN-7. In the series, George Baker interviewed prominent people. It aired in a single city only, typical of early Australian series. Archival status is not known.
