It was released in Japan by Toei on December 5, 2015, and in Turkey by Mars on December 25, 2015. The film connects two historical incidents that deepened the friendship between Japan and Turkey: The sinking of the Turkish frigate Ertuğrul off the Japanese coast in 1890, and the evacuation of Japanese nationals from Tehran in 1985.
