Fok_It is a Finnish comic strip drawn by Joonas Rinta-Kanto (born 1982) since 2009, whose trademarks include absurdity and omission of the actual punchline. Strips of the comic have been published on Facebook and on the web page of the Helsingin Sanomat Nyt supplement since 2011. There have also been seven collective print albums of the strip. [1]

Rinta-Kanto draws the original drawings of the strip in felt-tip pen, scans them in, and colours the strip by computer. [2]

Ideas of Fok_It strips, originally consisting of three panels, have included for example belt bags and moustaches. The artist himself calls the humour in Fok_It "tired", it can also be described as twisted or outright absurd. [1] At first some characters in the strip resembled each other, which was a coincidence, but the strip has later started featuring different main characters such as Pete [2] and power animals. Current issues and phenomena also feature in the strip. These include for example bakery products for festive occasions such as Christmas pastries or laskiainen buns.

The strip sometimes also features other animals such as small birds. On Fridays the characters often have the weekend on their minds.

MUTTS is a daily comic strip created by Patrick McDonnell and launched on September 5, 1994. Distributed by King Features Syndicate, it follows the adventures of Earl, a dog, and Mooch, a cat. Earl and Mooch interact with each other, their human owners, as well as the animals around their neighborhood.

Helsingin Sanomat, abbreviated HS and colloquially known as Hesari, is the largest subscription newspaper in Finland and the Nordic countries, owned by Sanoma. The strip has run in dozens of newspapers including The Boston Globe, The Columbus Dispatch, and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. In each strip Guren, through his Shagg E. Dawg character, answered questions from readers about the animal kingdom. The strip retired on 5 January 2020.

American Finnish was used actively until the 1950s and after that it has been declining, and Finnish Americans have been switching to English. The form of speech was studied by Pertti Virtaranta in 1960, and the first American Finnish dictionary was made in 1992. It has influence from English both in syntax and vocabulary. In autumn 2016 ownership of the restaurant was transferred to Wolfgang Wiegand's daughter Nina Wiegand, who had been working at the restaurant since 1996. Nina Wiegand was educated as a kindergarten teacher.
