Fola Francis (18 March 1994 – 20 December 2023) was a Nigerian transgender model, LGBTQIA+ activist and entrepreneur. [1] [2] In 2022, she became the first trans model to walk the Lagos Fashion Week runway for Cute-Saint and Fruché. Her debut on the runway had ripple effects, with the Lagos Fashion Week's team deciding not to post any of her pictures. [3] [4]
Francis started her brand, Fola Francis, in 2018 as a way to deal with trauma from being kitoed. [5] Before then, she worked as a blogger and TV producer in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Francis constantly spoke out about trans and non-binary issues in Nigeria, and her voice was highlighted by the BBC after the cross-dressing bill was introduced in the country, which she called scary and dangerous. [2] She actively participated in the Nigerian ballroom scene as host and queen of the Lagos ballroom scene and sought to replicate the feeling of safety, community, and positive representation balls are known for. [1] [6]
In 2023, Francis appeared in her first role as an actress in 14 Years And A Day an LGBTQ+ film by Uyaiedu Ikpe-Etim and Ayo Lawson. [7] She also documented her journey as a trans woman on TikTok and was popularly known for her day in the life of a trans woman living in Nigeria videos. [8]
Francis spoke on several LGBTQ+ panels, worked as an independent with several NGOs and queer organizations, and started Dolls Activities, a trans-focused initiative. [9]
On 20 December 2023, Fola Francis lost her life after drowning on a visit to a beach in Lagos, Nigeria. [10] [11]

He was arrested alongside 46 others for being allegedly gay and spent a month at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility. The case against them was later dismissed by a court.

Libs of TikTok is a handle for various far-right and anti-LGBT social media accounts operated by Chaya Raichik, a former real estate agent. Raichik uses the accounts to repost content created by liberals and LGBT people on TikTok and other social media platforms often with hostile, mocking, or derogatory commentary. Her accounts promote hate speech, homophobia, transphobia, and false claims, especially pertaining to medical care for transgender children. The Twitter account, also known by the handle @LibsofTikTok, has over 3.5 million followers as of September 2024 and has become influential among social conservatives and religious conservatives. Libs of TikTok's social media accounts have received several temporary suspensions and a permanent suspension from TikTok.
Dylan Mulvaney is an American social media personality known for detailing her gender transition in daily videos published on TikTok since early 2022. Before coming out as a transgender woman and launching her internet career, Mulvaney performed as a stage actor in Old Globe Theatre, Off-Broadway, and Broadway productions. She gained a higher profile on social media platforms after her interview with U.S. president Joe Biden at the White House, during which they spoke about transgender rights. After Bud Light sent a beer can to Mulvaney for an Instagram promotion in 2023, American conservatives led a boycott of the brand.
Rosalynne Montoya, known professionally as Rose Montoya, is an American transgender rights activist, model, and social media content creator. She began modeling in 2018, and has since modeled for Fenty Beauty, Savage X Fenty, Fluide, Yandy.com, Adore Me, and TOMS Shoes. Montoya, who is a non-binary transgender woman, was featured in 18 LGBTQ+ Policy Makers and Advocates Changing the World by Out Magazine in 2021. In 2022, she was nominated for Favorite TikToker at the 10th annual Queerty Awards.

She is the first transgender person to model for the Australian clothing manufacturer Bonds, and made her runway debut in 2021 at Melbourne Fashion Week. In 2022, she authored the memoir Girl, Transcending: Becoming the woman I was born to be.
Emira D'Spain is an Emirati-born American model, social media influencer and former beauty director. In 2022, she became the first Black transgender woman to model for Victoria's Secret. She has also been a cover girl for Glamour and was featured in Nylon. D'Spain has modeled for Fenty Beauty, UGG, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and NARS Cosmetics. She worked as the beauty director for Paper prior to the magazine's folding in 2023. D'Spain is a beauty content creator on TikTok, where she has over one million followers. On TikTok, she posts Get Ready With Me Videos, which have received over 85 million views.
