The Football tournament of the 2014 Lusophony Games took place in Goa, India at the Fatorda Stadium and Tilak Maidan. The tournament was played from 19 to 28 January 2014. There was only men's competition and U20 teams represented their nations. [1]

The 2014 Lusofonia Games was the 3rd edition of the Lusofonia Games, a multi-sport event that represent athletes from Portuguese-speaking countries and territories. It was held from 18 to 29 January 2014 in the Indian state of Goa.

The 2008–09 I-League season began on 26 September 2008 and finished on 16 April 2009 with a break in December for the Federation Cup and Durand Cup. Most games this season were played on Saturday's and Sunday's to attract larger crowds. After a successful first season for the I League, the second season featured 12 teams from four cities – again this would be expanded in the 2009–10 season to 14 teams.

Fatorda is a suburb of the city of Margao in Salcete, Goa. Fatorda has been originally home to the traditional Scheduled Tribe/Scheduled Caste population. The Catholic Gawda community has a very large presence in Fatorda. However, due to the increasing number of buildings in Fatorda, the population has become more diverse.

The 2002 AFC U-19 Women's Championship was the first instance of the AFC U-19 Women's Championship. It was held from 19 to 28 April 2002 in Goa, India. Two finalists are qualified 2002 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship.

The 2014–15 Indian Federation Cup, also known as the Hero Federation Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 36th edition of the Federation Cup, the main national football cup competition in India. Ten of the eleven I-League clubs participated in the tournament the season with Bharat FC being the excluded club.

The 2015 Indian Federation Cup Final was a football match between Dempo and Bengaluru FC played on 11 January 2015 at Fatorda Stadium in Margao, Goa. The match was the culmination of the 2014–15 Indian Federation Cup. This was the 36th edition of the Federation Cup, the national cup tournament of football in India which is administered by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Bengaluru FC won the final by defeating Dempo 2–1 with goals scored by Sunil Chhetri and Robin Singh while the Dempo goal came from a spot kick by Tolgay Ozbey. This was the first time Bengaluru FC had won the tournament.

The 2015 Indian Super League playoffs was the second playoffs series at the end of the Indian Super League season. The playoffs began on 11 December and culminated on 20 December with the final.

The 2016 BRICS U-17 Football Cup was the first edition of the BRICS U-17 Football Cup. It took place in the Indian state of Goa during the 8th BRICS summit which was also held in India. It began on 5 October and concluded with the final on 15 October. Brazil won the cup defeating South Africa in the final. The tournament featured the under-17 teams of all five members of BRICS with the final taking place at the Fatorda Stadium.

The 2016 Indian Federation Cup, also known as 2016 Hero Federation Cup due to sponsorship reasons was the 37th edition of the Federation Cup, the main national football cup competition in India. The tournament was held from 30 April 2016 to 21 May 2016. Top 8 teams from 2015–16 I-League participated in the tournament. Ten Sports Network, the Official Broadcaster of Hero Federation Cup 2016 will telecast only the Semi-finals and the Final match while Knockout stage matches will be streamed live on I-league website.
